Just seen this in today's times. All 43 police forces have signed up.

Is this going to be a positive move? The first I've heard of this!

My personal view: It needs to happen. It will happen eventually. Maybe its the gateway event for 10 year licences. However if it cuts down on force admin perhaps it will firm part of an argument to push the sec 2 to sec 1 consultation. Still, early days

Does no one understand what a kick in the stomach a move for all firearms to sect. 1 will do to the industry, let alone to gun ownership in general.
Talk to your local dealers. I bet you won't fine one of them racing to sign a petition to go all-in.

The drop off in licences being renewed due to fully electronic forms and medical requests has taken its toll. Add the requirement for shotgun owners to show good reason for ownership of ALL firearms they hold, and the need to make sure they are future proofed when lead goes. You watch them drop off in a hurry.

The licencing of game shoots and the control of deer culling by the government, or some other body ( mark me, it WILL come ! ) , will see what we have now will be a thing of the past.

Not sorry for being a miserable little fekker this Friday morning.

Gateway for 2 year licenses I bet, faster and easier renewals, same or higher renewals fees, but suddenly doubled or more due to shorter renewal timeframe. They’ll argue more frequent mental and health checks can be made which will make society safer, etc.
you’ll also find the new system trawls all social media with a list of trigger words or collated replies to specific types posts - it will likely be able to access your IP and possibly have access to internet history.

This, is not a good thing,.

But that's only the national database, the data will still need to be uploaded by the local licensing forces once they've authorised the initial/renewal/variation.
You’ll upload and manage your own data. Our deer hunting licences are now online only, so are income tax returns and a few other services.
The system works well with very little backup.

To those saying about Game shoot licensing, 2 year licenses/ renewals everything becoming sec1 etc

If this is all the case, why do you think the Gov is soo desperate to destroy gun ownership.
When gun owners are the most highly vetted everyday citizens you have to question why the Gov would be soo desperate to remove them from Public Hands. To my mind a Gov desperate to disarm its citizens is a Gov that’s got ideology’s that feel threatened by having lethal tools in public hands despite the fact none of us want/own guns for lethal reasons beyond deer stalking or game shooting

It really makes me question the Gov. In history the only people who want to disarm its citizens are Govs that want total unthreatened control of the country

My personal view is that it’s not that conspiratorial.

They’re just a bunch of city types who can’t understand why anyone would enjoy shooting (whether targets or quarry) so see private firearm ownership as nothing but a risk to public safety (no utility, as they don’t ‘get it’, while there’s the risk of someone going rogue).

Couple that with a worldview that Govt knows best and is responsible for keeping you safe, there’s just no reason to permit the public to own guns.

On top of that you can sprinkle some left wing reverse snobbery/class warfare and a woke attitude that anything that’s the preference of older white males should be marginalised.

I think your bang on the money but I’d also ad that I think the Gov knows it makes and continually makes very unwise, unpopular and Authoritarian like policy’s and so I think see gun ownership as a Risk to those policy’s
Just a personal view but I just wish they’d F off and leave the community alone because I have guns for hunting and target shooting and are highly vetted.

Funny how we are governed by the most corrupt people and they’re concerned about us 🤣🤣

Not sure that we are "highly vetted" but see your point.

Without this getting political there needs to be an amount of regulation of guns ..albeit this is something that will never get agreement on what level is acceptable.

I think we are alot more vetted than you would know
Every metric of your life was checked to get your license I think
But as you say you get what I mean

I think it’s as safe as it can be without Banning them and what frustrates me is the the bans in certain gun types etc was all Police Fault not a licensing system and law fault

Anyways best not get too political as you say
