What results have people had using this powder. 308. - 150 gr nosler BT / T3x / 20 inch barrel with 1 in 12 twist??
Don’t shoot me down I’ve been loading for my 243 and just moving to a 308

I think RL15 is made in a similar way to RL17/RS60 which has been associated with shorter barrel life if you try to get its full potential from it. I use VV N150 in a .308 180grn with a 26" barrel. N135 might suit your situation better.

Barrels are expendable and we/re talking a 308 here. My girlfriend shoots long range with Lovex D073.6 which is very similar to RL15 or 4064. It's marketed here as "Shooter's World Rifle Match" Her groups are enviable.

Another Lovex fuel, D073.08 is sold here as "Tactical Rifle" and the following is in Shooter's World's manual:

"While Tactical Rifle is optimized for 55 grain .223 Remington and 5.56mm, and
147/150 grain .308 Winchester and 7.62mm, it also provides sub-minute accuracy with
match loads we’ve evaluated. Using as-received/unmolested Winchester .308 brass,
Winchester large rifle primers, and a simple load of 42.5 grains of Tactical Rifle with a
168-grain Sierra Match King seated to 2.800”, we fired a 10-round sub minute group at
200 yards. Simple, yet effective."

Noting that I had a bag of Winchester 308 brass, Winchester primers and some 168 Sierra MK's, I replicated their experiment. From my RPR this combo shot 1.8" for 10 shots at 200 yards. This is not so much a recommendation of the powder but testimony as to the general accuracy of a well balanced 308 load. As a friend of mine is fond of saying, "It's a 308. How can it NOT shoot???" If you have the RL 15, just shoot it. JMHO. ~Muir

Given that Alliant powders have just gone up in price to £139/Kg - (£63 for 454g at Kranks) - I'd be looking at Viht N140 (also now up in price to £96.50/Kg)

RL15 works a treat with 175gr .30 bullets for me. I went with N140 for my 150gr and 130gr .308 loads. I'm sure RL15 would work well with 150gr bullets too.
Edit - with a 20" barrel you might find you get quite a bit of muzzle flash unless you're using a moderator!

I hand load for my .308 rifles and have used RL15 successfully for years. To drive my usual 150 grain spire points, I use 42 grains of powder in one rifle and 44 grains for the other. These possibly do not give the hottest of loads for the calibre, but they hit the sweet spot that is unique for each rifle in my case.

Re15 is an excellent powder for 150-180gn bullets in 308 Win. It's made for Alliant by Eurenco Bofors in Sweden and is the same thing as Norma 203-B from the same source. It's a fairly mild double-based recipe, slightly slower burning than Hodgdon VarGet and Viht N140.

It has two downsides: 1) availability / price right now; 2) it's temperature affected, although in our climate you'd be unlikely to notice that unless running right on maximum hot loads. Very flexible, lots of uses, been around for a quarter century or so and a favourite of many.

Some years ago, I'd have said 'go for it if locally available', but in today's situation of shortages and price rises - and sadly things are only going to get [much] worse - I'd recommend looking at Viht N140 or Reload Swiss RS50 first as these companies are the biggest suppliers in the UK.

Re17/RS60 comes from a different source and uses very different chemical technology in order to maximise performance. As ultimate performance always carries wear and tear costs, this product can have downsides. That has no bearing on Re15/N203-B which people have happily used for a long, long time without problems or complaints.

If you have a stock of RL15 you will find it an excellent powder for your .308 and 150 grain lead bullets. I have loads for this calibre and bullet weight with RL15 and Viht N140 and both give similar accuracy and velocity. Given the current supply and price situation N140 probably is a better choice if you are buying in powder.

Thanks for clearing that up.
I might use up the rest of my RL15 now.
