Annual booster cost

If vets see an adverse reaction, they should report it and the 2023 adverse reaction data gives L2 vaccines less than two cases per 10,000 doses; L4 less than four cases per 10,000 doses.

World vet consensus is to use the L4 due to changes in the prevalence of the bacteria and to use the L4 in those animals most at risk - hunting and farm dogs.

L2 vaccines contain canicola (dog reservoir, now rare) and icterohaemorrhagiae (rat reservoir, common)
L4 has the above plus australis (wildlife reservoir, increasing) and grippotyphosa (more common in Europe)

The internet view is is just that, a view.
Thank you for clearing this up.

My vet says to vaccinate when their 6/8 weeks old and then 4 weeks after. First year booster if you want, then don’t want to see you again.
Mind you, I’m over in Ireland and we are a bit more chilled about our dogs.

12 year old GWP and 10 year old Jack Russel had their booster jabs yesterday total cost with kennel cough £226.

Some years ago I was advised by an old vet who I trusted (he was a deer stalker) that booster jabs after the dog had attained a certain age were of little extra benefit as the dog had already attained a large degree of immunity. I will admit that I would have followed his advise if it were not for having to put the dogs in boarding kennels later in the year.
In order to get the dogs vaccinated it was necessary for me to change vets as it was impossible to get an appointment with the ones that we have used for the last 30 years. Frankly I wasn't upset to change vets as we had become very disillusioned with practice we had been using since they were bought out by a large company.

Bad news was that the new vet informed me that my old GWP has a heart murmuor, quite upset to hear this.

For those that think puppy vaccines are all their dogs need, I euthanised a lovely three year old Labrador last month. Confirmed leptospirosis case. Need not have happened if her vaccines had been kept up to date. I’m sure the likes of @Buchan has seen similar heartbreaking cases. Lepto is not like the other vaccines. Immunity wanes markedly.

Lepto is an utter bastard of a disease. Immunity lasts about 11/12 months or so. Don't scrimp

I'm with Buchan,I keep all my dogs vaccinated and tick treatment (Nexgard). And it's worth every penny to me to see that my mates have the best chance of staying well.

Don't most insurance companies insist on yearly jabs being up to date or they won't cover you?
