Are We Boycotting Wildcat Moderators?

Let me make the following clear to any latecomers to this thread for the avoidance of doubt please:

1. I accept the thread title is less than ideal and could have been better worded.

2. I now better understand the challenges faced by the manufacturer due to Home Office or local Constabulary requirements.

3. I still do not understand why a spare part cannot be obtained if you have a newer mod with each component carrying a serial number. Surely you simply hand the defective part to the RFD who in turn sends such to Wildcat for a direct replacement with same serial number. The old part is destroyed.

3. I still wish to purchase a Wildcat Evolution in 6mm for my Sako PPC but some RFD’s seem to be making this more difficult than it need be IMHO.

Agreed - it should be no different to the firearm itself. You can get it repaired. I'm unsure what happens if an individually serialised part is replaced and has a new serial number though. For instance - I have a Beretta shotgun where every component is serialised - even the individual ejectors have the gun's serial number on them. What if one ejector was replaced? I presume a new replacement would have no serial number, but what if it was a second hand one which another shotguns serial number on it. It is not a pressure bearing part - i'm presuming you do not need authorisation to buy one.

FWIW, none of the moderators I own have a serial number on them.

The key selling point to me was the modularity of the design, allowing me to use 1 mod on different rifles effectively. I've gone from a a p8 that was used between maybe 3 or 4 rifles to a mod for each, if nothing more purely out of spite 😂 the p8 went with a 243 I sold, replaced with a stalon and an ase utra. It's a shame really

Better still, make a moderator that does not need to be disassembled for cleaning (a pointless task) or replacing parts.

ASE Utra have done this and I can't see anyone doing better.

DPT are lighter and cheaper than Wildcat, design is better too.

I'll buy something because it's designed well, not based on the sole reason of 'UK made'.

That's why I buy Spuhr mounts and not Tier One.

Was just about to splash some cash on a Wildcat Evolution in .25 but then recalled a thread that berated the Company for not selling even direct replacement spares. That alone could be enough to make me change my mind but wondered if the SD consensus was to avoid Wildcat products in the hope of bringing the Owners to their senses?

I bought a Predator 12 when I started shooting with the believe that I would be able to buy different bridges for another rifle if I ever need to - how wrong was I.

Got to say though, the Wildcat dedicated .204 Moderator is incredible on my rifle out at night, just so quiet as well as being light. Got DPT and Ase Ultra on other rifles which I am very happy with but the sound reduction on this wildcat impresses me the most.

I expect so, when I spoke to them the reason for this decision was because of the FLDs causing aggro over the parts not being on ticket.
I heard from an RFD (who I bought a Wildcat from) that it may have also had to do with insurance. Perhaps the two are related.

Whats the problem shoot it until it falls to bits and get another one!

Just because they sold spares does not mean the have to continue doing so!
Well as the WHOLE CONCEPT of a modular system revolves around swapping and adapting.... lengthening and shortening... even changing calibre, the inability to actually buy the MODULAR components is a bit of a bum twitcher. I have a wildcat. I have never used it other than a few sighting in rounds, but the whole point of modular is to adapt and that includes replacing worn or corroded parts. If this is still an issue and I couldnt swap out, then whats the point. Just make the mods fixed and throw away and save sheds on over engineering

i have a wild cat moderator but will never buy from them again.<i think its called being shafted ,sell on the premis that parts easily available then stick it to the customer. a perfect british company !>

I am placing an order for a Wildcat just as soon as I can a;- confirm the thread pitch on my 6PPC and b;- find time to get along to Chris Potter to slap some cash (c£300) on the rifle sales front of house desk.

See my earlier comments for where I’m coming from on this subject.

Folkestone Engineering Supplies also sell Wildcat mods and using a thread gauge confirmed what I needed and machined the bush? on my over barrel mod for free.

The wildcat is a bloody good mod, I personally dont care that they no longer sell spares, not that was ever a factor in me getting one.
That’s all well and good if…
a) you can afford to have individual mods for each rifle and b) your happy and can afford to replace a mod with new when you change calibre etc

The main draw for me to wildcat was the ability to use one mod on multiple rifles, which I still currently do, but going through a changes of calibre atm means I now can’t buy the parts to use my current mods on the new rifle

Having emailed wildcat over the weekend about my predicament and the possibility of ordering a new mod, they’ve said they hope to be back to selling spares sometime in the near future all going well
