In the early days of the scheme, Our friend on here Griff, put in a lot of effort into the scheme, including being made to alter his ferry home schedule due to a full trailer on a Friday morning
Conner my comments are just an opinion and i sat on a few panels were the Arran Scheme was discussed. It was clear that this was just a gift to BASC for the support they gave to decisions made by Government department,s. The scheme did not benefit scotland in real terms and the majority that came to Arran were in fact English. Surly you can see the hypocrisy in this scheme while FE would not run any similar schemes. I am sure there are many estates up north that would welcome an injection of cash from BASC so there is hope. The BASC tender application outcome for Arran posted by @wytonpjs from whatever was posted in the Arran FB page is disappointing for many people and the timing and content of your cynical comment is, I think, distasteful and insensitive, to say the least.
David, not wishing to getting into a spiral here as the decision has been made and we all await with interest news of who has got the contract. I don't follow your logic at all nor do I wish to try to disentangle all of that TBH. It was a deer stalking scheme. You didn't like the scheme. So be it. There are other schemes and hopefully more to come. The purpose of the schemes are to provide a variety of different deer stalking opportunities for members who wish to take up stalking and to provide those with limited access to stalking with the opportunity to gain practical experience and increase their knowledge. Conner why should the Scottish government tasked with managing scotland estate. Single out BASC. This is not about opertunity for all this is for your members and i did like the idea just not the way it was only one organisation that had the opertunity. I believe we should all have the same opertunity not just BASC. There are many other organisations that could run stalking schemes that are larger in membership in scotland. After sitting in meetings with the Scottish BASC team there was an arrogance that could not be quantified here. Now while BASC had Arran there was an understanding that they would support many of the new legislation. Hopefully now they are not beholding to sottish government for stalking they will start to look at the new legislation with there all there members in mind.I don't follow your logic at all nor do I wish to try to disentangle all of that TBH. Do you not think it just a little rude not to spell the chap’s name correctly?Conner why should the Scottish government tasked with managing scotland estate. Single out BASC. Sadly i have tried to correct it but can edit for some reason. Total misspelling and something i am picked up for all the time Dyslexia is something i have learned to live with. But i am sure most will get the jist of my post. I will stop here for fear of having up setting the softy,s.Do you not think it just a little rude not to spell the chap’s name correctly?
Conor not Conner the clue is in the thread, unless of course you are trying to be rude and imply something else. In which case, behave.
There was no such deal or understanding in place. I have never experienced arrogance in meetings with the Scotland team and I dare say I have been in many more a meeting than yourself with them over the last 21 years. As well as stalking schemes BASC provides many other shooting opportunities and other activities and training for its members.Conner why should the Scottish government tasked with managing scotland estate. I feel it might be no one. There is always the possibility that none of the bids were accepted, and that the whole process starts again.
The Arran Scheme was set up to give stalkers a chance to stalk reds in an upland environment, and yes it was predominantly English stalkers that took up that challenge, just the same challenge which a lot of Scots take up to shoot Munties and Chinese and in some extent Fallow.. Like you say, you are sure that there are many estates that would welcome such a scheme, but none have come forward. Is it possible that they realise that there is a huge amount of work to be done before you even set foot on the ground. As for it not benefiting Scotland, the avg cost of a week was 1k(2015) that included Calmac, Brodick retail, B&B's, Fuel, venison all to HG, all in Scotland when I last looked.. So don't try and say it did not benefit Scotland when the truth is it did, and it gave some English and Scottish stalkers some memories they will never forgot, now if your happy for them perhaps you are on the wrong site.Conner my comments are just an opinion and i sat on a few panels were the Arran Scheme was discussed. Pepsi was the range RCO, ............ I remember Mike's radio call, "Griff, don't disappear with that trailer!"Finn,
so many memories, a few bad ones, a sad one, lots of good ones. There loads of shall we say "incidents" , off roading in fancy Jeeps, off roading in a land rover.. 17 point stag, bottom of a ravine stag, a whole stag made into sausages, collasped larder with 14 100kg + stags in it,my little black lakeland who ran down to the target on every shot and barked at the A4 piece of paper, and I told them she only barked if there was one in the bull, all ready to go on the 11.00am ferry friday morning and halfwit calls in with 1/2 dozen @ Caan Ban(remember), lost me cool that day...![]()
