As we get older ..

Guinness by mouth and Allopurinol for the gout which I had been denying, its brilliant. A bit of gym but not enough to worry my wife that I'm preparing to go looking for Mk2...

Hope so , sitting here now with an attack. Starting Allopurinol this week.
From an earlier thread - sorts it in no time…
“See your doc - ask for Prednisol steroid tabs (8 daily), Colcichine and a painkiller. It will clear gout very quickly.
Ask me how I know….”.

Teaspoon of top quality extra virgin olive oil every morning. Thank me into into your extended old age, good few of my much smarter pals from school and university are clinicians, surgeons and consultants (mid 50s) have been doing it for years, we only started last year but already lots of aches and ailments have...stopped.

Glucosamine MSM tablets each morning, and then diclofenac (voltaren) ointment on the afflicted spot after a day afield.

NSAIDs if I manage to let something get horribly flared up (like plantar fasciitis).

Please guys, find out what's causing your aches and pains, before you go treating them with random stuff!
What helps one person may exacerbate the situation in another.
For example, tumeric is counterindicated for my condition, because it works by giving your immune system a boost, whereas in order to control my aches and pains my immune system needs to be suppressed. So I get pretty sick to death of people telling my I should be taking tumeric, because it was so wonderful for them.

Funny(ish) story: My mum took it for years and absolutely swore by it, until she ended up with tumeric poisoning 😂

Am on STERIODS' I have Polymyalgia rheumatica, muscle stiffness/pain in my case upper arms . Had a heavy dose to start with now been dropped to a very low level of medication, still a bore though.

BC.

None it’s all bollocks. Exercise to strengthen the ligaments and supporting muscles. Enough but not too much.
I'd have concurred to an extent...until I had an MRI scan which showed the reason I could no longer exercise or even really walk properly. Wish I'd done more low impact stuff when I was younger, rather than forcing myself to run.
Hey, some of it is genetic.
Plenty evidence in favour of a Mediterranean diet. But note diet rather than supplements after the fact.
Definitely get into yoga type stretches, flexibility and core stuff.
But, beer....

I now know a considerable number of consultants and their receptionists by their first names.
I’m halfway through my second shot at radiation treatment.
My medicine cabinet looks like a well stocked pharmacy with lots of stuff only available on prescription and oodles of cross the counter stuff.
On the other hand, I can still stalk, fish and run a dog. I have some nice whiskey in the press, my kids still talk to me and my grandkids are a delight.
Life was never perfect, but it’s a lot better than the alternative so far.
