ATV safety training

Been offered a free course by EASI after buying a new quad. I fully intend to take them up on it once a venue is arranged, but wondered if anyone on SD had already done it, and whether it would satisfy the likes of forestry commission requirements, or if gtp just a basic 'How not to fall off' kind of thing? 🤔

I was offered one but the nearest they were running one was about 4hr round trip so I didn't bother. They were really pushy about me attending and I felt like they were after some sort of payment or commission from Honda that they only got when I attended.

I would be interested in feedback on what the course entails.

Yep. The first location they mentioned was up in Kinross. Given that I'm in Angus it would've meant an even longer round trip for a four hour course.

I recall doing a quad course many years ago, and the stuff about negotiating very steep slopes was really valuable. Learnt a lot that day.

If possible try and get a course that doesn’t have an expiry date on the certificate, saves future hassle/resits.
Did mine c2001 at Crichton college in Dumfries
Lantra if I recall.

There’s a place in Crieff does all the courses, I did my EFA+F with them recently, but they would be any nearer for you.
It's about an hour and a half or so. Not too bad 👍 Ideally, RingLink in Laurencekirk would work. It's right next door to work 😆

I would be very surprised if that course is accepted by most forestry companies.
But i may be wrong, only way is to check with wot ever land agents/ forestry managment companies u deal with and ask.

Strictly speaking it should as u just need to be a 'competant' person.

Personally ud be as well trying to get an NPTC ticket as no expiry date.
As far i know Lantra tickets used to have a 5yr expiry date, unless they have changed.

I can mind years agoblocal estate got a new management company in so a load of staff had to do tickets, all done Lantra tickets and cost a bit of money.
Forestry company refused to accept them so had to dovthem again.
I also know of sone fencing contractors had to redo all their tickets. chainsaw, tractor, chapper, quad etc tickets

Unless I’m mistaken. The Atv course offered is an atv operators course and is accepted by leasing bodies that require atv training.

Happy to be proved wrong but that’s what I’ve been led to believe .

I did mine today in mid Wales. I didn't really know what to expect. I really enjoyed it and found the instruction very useful, it's amazing how many of us are totally self taught and I certainly think it will improve my riding and safety. I asked if forestry etc accepted the certification and was assured they did.
