the price of £30 to have your rifle threaded was that mates rate!! (cash) or is he doing it for a living ie. including vat and other overheads like tooling, electricity, rates, etc in the price of the work?

No, his "mate" is using someone elses machinery premises, electricity etc by the looks of it, that does,nt mean he does a bad job, just that his mate has no expenses.
If he had f&**ed it up though, he,d be going red faced to a Riflesmith!
