Steel inside people going for an MRI is a big no no!
I’ve been through about 5 scans and each time I’ve been asked - is there any steel inside me that I know of?
At one stage there was a bright mass on an X-Ray and the docs weren’t keen to do the MRI until the mass was properly identified as not being metallic!
So if you accidentally ingest some steel shot it becomes a hospital problem.

I thought that was a myth??

Or possibly the myth was it would pull the steel shot out off u, effectively shooting u from the inside to out.
I think I'd rather take my chances with God old lead.

I think most offs on here have been crying it for basc ( and other orgs) to grow a big set of based and lead from the front.
The 1 f***ing time they do they don't just lead us down the garden path, more like the slaughter house chase.

WJ only need a sniff off a target to cause turmoil, our orgs have just put a massive bullseye on lead shot.
After the LAG/John Swift debacle I thought we had put lead shot to bed for the near future


Is there a reason for the timing??
As far as I know there is no new scientific evidence so surely NO change???

They have made some big pledges about single use plastics, like others have said is the technology really there.
In basc's statement they mention how quick the technology has came on recently but surely it would off been better to hold off and wait till the technology is already there and getting cheaper and proved itself.


A lot has been said about leads toxicity despite people eating it for hundreds off years with no know ill effect.
Does anyone truely know wot steel shot will do in the body over the long term? Or any of the various other shot choices??
We've already heard not great on teeth.
Will it start to rust? I know they were also worries about MRI scanners, althou I think widely rubbished

I currently have a lovely (63lbs & 62lbs) set of Moz ivory sitting in SA that I can't bring home, along with a load of hippo ivory languishing in Beira for similar reasons.

Sadly, somehow we have not been clear over the last 60 years or so what the hunting community has contributed to maintaining strong populations of game. Such a change over the Tsetse clearance belts years ago which for the same political reasons made it ok to kill a huge amounts of game. It is a topic with such complex nuances I just don’t know how we educate public opinion and law makers in this populist opinion, social media, urban generally, misled conservationist bodies who probably think they are doing the RIGHT thing banning stuff. They pay nothing either way and genuinely believe a protest is the right thing to do
Is a Save our wildlife education website with NO hunting connections, science. Massive wwf etc support the answer. Will it happen??

Cheers Eddie, never knew wot they stood for, but did know it's was a bloody great big magnet.

So in theory if u had some steel shot from eating game in ur body ( guessing stomach or intestines) would the pull of the Mari's magnets cause u any harm?
Ie would it pull the shot out off ur body? Or cause pain by pulling them??

If the wildlife has no value, then it wont be conserved. Something the dickheads calling for a ban on hunting refuse to accept.
Heck, Botswana's even opened up elephant hunting again, targeting those which are attacking & killing people.

The magnetism is strong enough that it would literally shoot you from inside out and potentially damage the £1.5m machine.
If it cuts a main artery on its way out then it’s goodnight and goodbye!

Yes iron and steel with MRI is a real danger. When I had mine they asked if I had any and asked a second time by asking if I also had any shrapnel in my body. It is a real risk.

That doesn’t sound good. I have been to hospital three times in the last 4 yrs to have bits of steel removed from my face/eyes. There could be some still in there

Steel shot may well be found to be at least as damaging to the shooter as to the' shot' - but surely lead is sooooo much more damaging to the environment?

Must admit I thought that had been dismissed as a myth pedalled by lead shot brigade.
Absolutely mind blowing anyone would think steel is a safer alternative.
More and more folk get MRI scans nowadays. Really not that uncommon now.
