Beds Cambs Herts HMI report

This is so disappointing, but not a surprise.

Hert's used to be SUPERB before they moved the admin to Camb's, and lost Mary in the office, a true SUPERSTAR to all Hert's FAC holders, and always right at the top of the best FLD's.

Let's hope they get the help, and direction, so that things improve ! Clearly the massive increase in licensing costs has done nothing to improve the service !

My renewal is due in June, and god only knows how that's going to go 🤞

Hope you have the paper work in already, cambs was brilliant under its last bosses but now its a mess.
Such a shame

And to think I got the jitters when my wife was 9 days overdue.
Mine took about 9 months had to give my misses the keys to the cabinet and wait for the guy in charge. His attitude is disgusting, wouldnt talk on the phone, wouldnt give any time scale, wouldnt email.
Then had the check to back date tickets as if there was never a problem, this seems like fraud to me. I have very little faith in the institution now im afraid.
When the female feo i know retires i dread to think how bad it will be

I unofficially found out today that one of the forces mentioned is now concentrating on completing the submissions made in the last 3 months, apparently this will stop the people that have recently applied complaining and when asked the licensing team can show that the turn around has dramatically improved from 2 years to a few months.

Absolutely ridiculous.

Those already on the late list can wait and not increase the list numbers.
The more recent submissions risk increasing that overdue number so will get done ahead of the already late.

This is already running as a thread under 'Police Delays' just below, but by all means carry on . . . :);)

This is the latest . . From BCH {the same message is on the Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire, and Hertfordshire Constabulary websites}

Firearms licensing service update

Service status: significant delays

We've worked hard to ensure our firearms licensing processes meet the latest statutory guidance. This has resulted in increased work for each new grant and renewal application, with additional checks and scrutiny required.

These changes, along with increased demand, have resulted in delays in granting applications. This also applies to variations, transfers, and updates.

We've increased the number of people who are working on the grants and renewal applications, and the introduction of new technology over the coming months will allow us to start reducing the processing times.
We've taken the decision to prioritise the resources to reviewing renewal applications. The current timescales that can be expected are:

Renewal applications: around 9 months
Grants: a minimum of 12 months

We apologise and ask for your patience and understanding.

I was told categorically, NOT to put it in sooner than 6 months, or it would be rejected  I just have a few days to go 😁
Same as me, starting my medical process on the 15/1 to have the application in mid feb. (July expiry)

Friend of mine is waiting on a variation, I'm sure he said it's been processing for going on 12 odd months. He's has the visit, has been approved for the variation, and he chases them reasonably regularly. He's being told it's 'in a print queue', which it has been for the last couple of months. He offered to send in an admin lady to do the printing for a day, weirdly they didn't take him up on the offer. I know he said his renewal is due this year, I dread to think how long that'll take.

I miss the days when you knew your FEO by his first name, had his number and email, renewals took mere days after popping by the office, dropping everything off and gifting a packet of chocolate Hob-Nobs by way of a thank you.
