Best fuel efficient cars or SUV/truck for Stalkers

Best I've ever had and still have is a Toyota landcruiser lwb - revelation after years of landrover/disco bs. Everything you'd ever want for stalking short or long distances - except fuel economy!

I know a fella who has one with lpg conversion

Anyone used a BMW X3 for this sort of thing? On paper it looks like it’d tick a lot of boxes.
Wife had one for a bit, quite small inside, expensive maintenance, nice to drive, v good economy. Not great offroad. How about a suzuki jimny for a small eco genuine off roader? They are super popular with hunters out here in france, not at all as good as an x3 on motorways but much better in mud and a lot cheaper. V reliable too

Now you talking, amazes me in the alps how you can hike up for hours and stumble accross an old boy picking something with his panda parked nearby! Prob get a couple of fallows in there if you break them down a bit! 🤣
Just take all the "unnecessarily" seats out and get them to sit on the floor:lol::lol:

I have a mild hybrid Subaru Forester, awd, it is very much a go anywhere vehicle and have had protective plates fitted underneath it even although it has very good ground clearance anyway. You get very little distance on the electric however it is still good to get you silently very near to where you are going. I get about 35 to the gallon but could get more if I drive it more sensibly. You could easily get several roe in the boot and even more if you put the back seats down.

Good lady has the E Boxer Forester Hybrid, used on our shoot. Very capable off-road or on snow/ice; two spaniels plus lab in the rear Lintran. Although I have the Isuzu V Cross the Forester is a real joy to drive and very comfortable On long journeys, 38mpg with Premium petrol when keeping your foot out of the bucket.

Surprised nobody has mentioned Jimny...

I drove a defender for years, never again. Had a subaru forester - utterly brilliant and speedy on motorways. Went anywhere I needed it to. Just a rustbucket. Wasnt that bad on fuel efficiency.

Currently on a mazda/ranger . Ok, does the job. Expensive to fill.

Id probably look at subaru again, or skoda scout - use skoda at work and they are excellent.
