If my lamp throws a usable beam to 250-300m that it is far enough. I won't be shooting further than that.

LEP is the way forward after @Freeforester showed me what i was missing! small, compact and throws a beam like nothing else. The beam also has no halo unlike led beams. I can be out all night in the winter and not change a battery (although I only use it for shooting not scanning).
