Best smelling gun oil ?

G96 Never tried any of the others mentioned above but this stuff takes me back to the hunting camp in Ontario in the sixties.

Original Butchers Bore Shine. There is a label on it with a warning not to inhale and use outside or in a very well ventilated room - I have no idea why I chose to take a sniff but I did and it almost took my breath away, bloody lethal stuff. Anyone else stupid enough to take a sniff?

It contains ammonia to take the copper off.

I actually like ammonia, it really wakes you up! 😄

Hm strange: I do use Parker Hale Young's 303 often. Let's say every week.
Because it is from a tin. And it is good stuff. But it doesn't smell really special.
Therefor we have Hoppes N°9. That yellow stuff is just alien pee from Mars.
And when me - daddy - was cleaning his toys in the kitchen - and the female crowd was watching stupid TV in the living rooom, and I just wanted to hear their interaction with my hobby, I just poured some Ballistol on a cloth ( always from the bottle, no spray)
DAD !!!!!
My daughter has now several complaints such as eczema. I should have used more Ballistol.
The Ballistol bore cleaner is just ammonia, flashes out my last brain cells.
----special remark nobody mentioned : wood care ! Pledge from a bottle on a cloth. Hm hm, smells for a week in house ---

I haven't bought any for years, I bought a big can probably thirty years ago now, so probably the old original. My kids, now nearly 50 years old always said they know when they're home by the smell of the 303 that permeates the house. From this, you will know I live alone!!!

Have you used Rangoon oil? Some say it's not a lubricant, some use Rangoon as a lubricant.

Young’s 303 and Rangoon oil, ahh this along with Condor or St Bruno pipe baccy. Heavenly…

Yes ! How I miss my Grandad’s pipe smell.
He used to cut a plug baccy called ‘War Horse’ flake it up in his hands and tamp it down before lighting up and giving a good impression of a British Rail ‘Deltic’ engine setting off in our front room.

Sorry.
Gone off topic remembering a great old boy (1896-1977) who spent 55 years as a miner, apart from the years 1914-1918.

What a cherished memory to have, I’ll bet he was a proper character.
Thanks for sharing 👍

Joined the DLI was blown up on the Somme, lost an eye - heavily injured with shrapnel. Sent back to Blighty for treatment. Year later went back to DLI who told him ‘you’ve done your bit’ so he joined the Sherwood Foresters (I think) and was back out in France just in time for Paschendale apparently.
Apogies to anyone who’s annoyed I’ve gone off topic, but I’m still proud of a man who had much spirit.

It’s lads like him that make this country ‘Great Britain’. Thanks, interesting to read that. 🇬🇧
