Blaser K95 with moderator

Couldn't have found a better analogy - have a like for that.

Each to their own but the whole point to having a lightweight, short, fast handling rifle to me is just that.

To the OP, the suggestion to invest in some state of the art electronic earplugs for the price of a mod is a valid one, YMMV of course, (if you don't value the intrinsic beauty of the rifle that is. :tiphat:).

ha ha.

Yes each to their own and I think Evo has got some helpful information.

I might invest in some "state of the art electronic ear plugs" if I go stalking with gentlemen who "value the intrinsic beauty of lightweight, short, fast handling rifles" that you maybe store in the Tate when you get back ...

On the subject of the nitride blocks, another K95 owner with the standard block told me his had rusted out completely after a trip to Russia

Right enough, Big White Hunter has a K95 & a very nice one too, in .243Win. Oct barrel, for sale. It's not inexpensive, but is really really nice.
I have mine & don't need another, but the market is rather 'specialised' with a single shot break action not usually foremost as a choice of stalking rifle.
However, when I first handled a K95 back in 1990 at the Kettner store in Dusseldorf, I just knew - one day I'd have enough dosh to buy one.
When in 2003 I did buy mine, it wasn't long before all rifles other than my rimmy became redundant.

Claret Dabbler... you just need to shut your eyes, think of the spec you want and get that wallet out! ATB

Yes I hope someone buys the K95 Big White Hunter is selling. He was pretty helpful when I was looking for one and it's reduced in price now.

Hi Evo

Haven't read the other responses to your post yet.

If you are getting the K95 it will be for a number of reasons including ascetics, weight and pointability. Adding a moderator will wreck all these.

If you are going to spend ££'s on on get yourself some noise attenuating ear-plugs and be a happier man. You can also use them in "wife-mode" at home ie switched off!

Very useful replies-Thanks.

deeangeo, I think the stock magazine looks the biz and would be really handy. Although it would not be as good a balancing aid do you think it is of some help in this regard? I am not worried about the recoil aspect as I will not be using larger calibres.

I think I will take my chances with a rimless cartridge. I had planned .308 but I have read several comments advising 6.5x55 for this rifle. Has anyone any advice between the two calibres in regard to use with the K95?

Also, how do people find the eye to scope alignment with this stock?

I think the use of ear plugs is the way to go in general but I want to be happy that it handles ok with a mod if need be.

On the face of it, a butt stock magazine is a good idea...in practice it's not so great. Yes it looks fine & I thought it would be useful...these days I use it to store fired brass when clearing up after shooting a beast, rather than having the brass rattle around in my pocket.
If I had to re-spec my K95 I'd certainly consider the kickstop....but then, I'm not buying another K95. It's a lightweight rifle and I like to seee quarry reaction clearly to the shot, so anything that reduces muzzle flip & recoil is certainly a bonus.
My rifle is mag-na-ported to reduce muzzle flip & it works.

Go your own way with spec. but the rifle is one you'll never regret buying. ATB

How do you find the blast with the Magna Port?

To the OP, I'd go .308 and you're unlikely to ever have problems sourcing ammunition just about anywhere in the world!

I have a cartridge trap which I have thought of installing in the right rifle, but since I have been shooting 8x57JRS and 7x57R combination guns, I find a belt cartridge pouch on the weak hand side or cartridge sleeves in my jacket or shirt probably work better.

Ear plugs in the field are the way to go. Plugs and muffs at the range, as with any rifle.

If you are even thinking of a moderator or muzzle brake, then back off from my suggestion of a 7x65R ( although it can be downloaded ). The 6.5x55 SWE would be sweet in a K95, much less recoil and muzzle blast than a full load of 7x65R or even a .308 Win.

As to scope alignment, that is a personal thing, of fit to you. Just as with the cartridge, another reason you need to go shoot some of these, or similar single shots, in various cartridges and loads, and with scopes and iron sights ( the bare rifle is 1.5 lbs lighter than scoped ).

These are not choices to make from your armchair, on the word of others. Go shoot some, talk to the owners.

With my combination gun I have two cartridges in a leather holder on the sling and then one in each of my hand warmer pockets. With a bit of practice - open, twist shake - empty falls out, drop in next cartridge, close, fire.

you can get a kick of system fit in the stock of the k 95 it is cheaper than a silencer. around 170 euros that cost my one ,or use your rifle without the silencer for on season .if you handle the recoil then no needed.other wise fit one after.thanks
