I just finished a few steak knives for a rather fancy place up north and the handles fitted were of stabilised Bog Oak.

The timber preserved for thousands of years in anaerobic conditions within the silt which formed the floor of the fenland basin after it flooded over 7000 years ago.

These are not the knives but this is the stuff.

I have four goodly sized chinks sat on my bench, not big enough for knifer handles but they might be of use to someone?

If you'd like them, please give me a shout and I'll drop them in the post for you.

I hope the fancy place up North refrains from putting in a dishwasher.

They actually take quite good care of them, for a restaurant 😂

Those knives are quite old now, originally made for a place named Le Cochon Aveugle in York, Vicky and Josh who owned and ran the place decided to close it down a while ago and open a new place, in search of a coveted ⭐

They bought an old pub in Hovingham, North Yorkshire, and opened Mýse last summer, so I rebranded the LCA knives for them.

They were awarded that ⭐ a couple of weeks ago :)

My wife and I were up there in December so I even got to use one of the knives, that said, the meat was so wonderfully cooked I could have cut it with a spoon.

If you find yourself Hovingham way give Mýse a go, you won't be disappointed, I gather that reservations a little harder to come by since their award though 😂
