Bolt holders

Too me in away leaving the bolt in your rifle is similar to leaving your moderator on your rifle when stored inside your cabinet .
And always take it out when leaving my permissions to ensure the rifle isn’t loaded

Yes. I like to have the air flow through the barrel. Which seems daft I suppose. I store rifles barrel up (with bolt removed). I store my shotguns in one piece, forend on the gun, don't ever "let down" the springs and barrel down. So any oil in the barrel doesn't drain though the striker holes into the head of the stock.

Rifle bolts and magazines in one safe, ammunition in another, moderators in with rifles in another and shotguns in another, with bolts, mags and ammo being quite separate from the S1/S2 firearms. I’m happier that way as is the FLO and, when I travel, the bolt, magazines and ammunition are separate to the rifle. That’s how I was trained and I don’t see me ever changing :tiphat:

I store my bolts wrapped up in an oily cloth in the ammo safe.
A good oily cloth is a thing of wonder. My late father had a large piece of tobacco brown silk as his (very very lightly oiled) oily cloth. Lint free is silk. Kept in the table drawer in the gunroom. It was always used to give a last rub along the outside of the barrels of his shotguns when they were put away to remove any fingermarks. As such fingermarks can cause rust.

The charity shops of the UK will now be filled with SD members seeking women's plain colour silk headscarves this next few weekends.
