All of this money they want to bill us for? What are they going to do if we stick two fingers up. Sue us? Repossess UK? Germany tried that once! I say tell them to get stuffed.

Provided that parliament repeals laws giving the European Courts jurisdiction over UK courts they have no means of enforcing this. The Europeans have adopted stupid negotiating tactics from the outset, the UK does not need to do any deal with them at all. That is not to say that it will not be mutually beneficial to come to amicable agreements with them but they have already made it very clear that they want a lop sided arrangement which involves the UK giving to the EU. As I said before, Mrs May's best option is to stand firm and do nothing, without our financial input the EU doesn't seem to have much of a future any way.

Most of what they want appears to be to pay off their debts.

How much of the so-called 'divorce settlement' figure is tied up in fancy admin buildings in Brussels and Strassburgh?

We should just cancel the direct debit!

+1 Milch cow come to mind..the UK being the supply station for cash.. including the millions or even billions that go abroad under the auspices of family benefits..

Congratulations ChesterP and Tim Brayford, you are both spot on with your posts. Mother Theresa should really just play the Ace now and tell Tusk,"If that's the way it is,"NO DEAL".
I am interested in what happens to Scotland if they go INDy and split the Union. They will no longer be in the EU as Britain will have left, therefore they are no longer EU citizens with rights to be in the UK. Being independant they will technically be a foreign nation and their folk in England should have to seek official immigration, likewise the English in Scotland as there will not be free passage back and forth as is the case with Eire (unless an act is introduced). "Oh what a tangled web we weave" wee Jimmy Crankie.

I don't agree on the BMW thing Pedro. The UK will still import just as many BMW cars if there is a hard Brexit.

It's just that they'll attract post Brexit UK tax. Say 10%. Perversely that...making them more expensive...will make them more desirable.

It's a "luxury" marque and most that drive new ones do it either as a company car or as a self-employed tax write off. What it costs is largely irrelevant.

That it post hard Brexit has a 10% import tax won't concern those who buy the new ones in the least. It'll restore the exclusivity the marque has lost in the last two decades.

At least that's my belief. The BMW sells on a perception of exceptionalism.

It's not..like the Ford, Vauxhall, Kia or whatever selling on price where a 10% price increase does matter.

Probably so, enfieldspares, although BMW was only an example. To be honest, although it's interesting (and perhaps worrying) to speculate, it's all really conjecture.

I think either way...if there's a hard Brexit...the Gibraltarians are going to be sacrificed by Theresa May. She may "talk the talk" but that's it.

She will sacrifice an open Gibraltar border with Spain if the price of it is accepting free movement of people between the 27 EU States and mainland Great Britain.

So effectively any "victory" she'll proclaim over The Rock will be meaningless, hollow, Phyrric in fact, if it is at the cost of a closed border with Spain.

Sad fact is there are only 30,000 and they've no vote in electing a UK Parliament. I hope I'd be wrong...I fear I won't be.

The few Gibraltese that I've met I mistook for being Spaniards, their Spanish sounding names and accents led to this misunderstanding, 96% of them want to remain within the EU and the UK is no longer a world power.

Perhaps this is an opportunity for us and the Gibraltese people to reflect on whether it is appropriate for Spain to be excluded from administering their former territory and if need be strike compromises to move forward into the future.

And absolutely no-one in, say Dublin, or Buenos Aires, would regard that as being in any way a precedent, or an indication that the UK was becoming less than resolute.

Britain once ruled over something like a sixth of the world, almost all of this vast empire has now gone, there needs to be a diplomatic solution to the remaining disputed areas and this will involve compromise.

No body would want the Spanish to become involvedin in their administration, the Spanish system is totally corrupt and incompetent. The Spanish people do not like it but they can do nothing as all the political parties are the same.
To give you an example each village has a Mayor which in Spain is thousands many are elected on political lines only FOUR manage to balance the books ie are not corrupt.
Many mayors are in prison and some are waiting to go.
This goes to thee very top as both main parties are being investigated for corruption
The incompetence of the civil service is considered a joke by the locals .
Would you want them to take charge of your country ?

Tony

Not sure when Gibralta had the last refernendum but did something like 95% vote to stay as part of UK.

Possibly they should be offered another referendum when the brexit thing is clearer as its them that have to live with it.
And has spain not being a PITA at the border for a few months or so now anyway

How do other countries in Europe cope? Places like Andorra (or is there not a couple of other tiny countries that have international football teams) and i'm i right in saying Switzerland isn't part of EU?
