Good evening. Has anyone on here build a smoker. There are various ones to buy obviously but looking to build one myself. If anyone has any plans or sample photos that they would like to share it would be very much appreciated.
With summer around the corner…….😜, I want to get the smoker build ready for BBQ time/smoking…
Thanks in advance…

There's a few here 9 DIY Smoker Plans for Building Your Own Smoker: Beginner to Experienced

I built a cold smoker out of an old gas bottle and a rotisserie BBQ out of another one but for a hot smoker to be left alone and maintain a steady temperature you need thermal mass which means thick steel, clay or stone so I bought a kamado grill from Aldi and it's bloody brilliant. Not available at the moment but this one from wowcher is a very good price and a little bit bigger than mine. Works great as hot smoker, BBQ and some people do pizzas on them. Wanted to ask this also for a while now

The thicker the smoking chamber the better but I didnt want to spend on a huge steel tank so made do with oil barrels.

Its not the most efficient but definitely works, 18hr briskets, 12hr pork shoulders, you can also crank it up to over 400c and fast roast spatchcock chickens.

Depends on what you are planning on smoking but if you buy a dust maze like this...

...then you can cold smoke most things (sides of salmon; joints of meat; sausages; cheese etc) simply using a box. A cardboard box would work well enough (as long as it didn't get rained on - you will want to do this outside!) but a simple wooden box with oven racks or fridge shelves would be easy to make and work really well. The maze creates a steady supply of smoke but without producing any discernable heat - so you don't need a separate chamber. I've got a two chamber smoke box but when I am using the maze I just shove it in the same chamber as the food I am smoking. Works a treat!

Kudu 270 have you tried YouTube, there might be a few ideas on there
I have, but I can’t communicate with anyone on there. I found a lot of people on youtube like posting but don’t reply to posts. So thought I post on here, likeminded people that have done the trial and error and know what works. Had some nice feedback and samples sent from SD members so thanks.👌

I threw this together last year. Just need to get the paint off and repaint and she's ready to go for summer. FYI it's got a nice big chimney coming out of the side now.

Found an el cheapo new Bradley smoker unit and then bought a stainless steel cupboard cheaply off eBay. Hung it off the garden fence. The cupboard stays fixed but I fit the Bradley only when in use. Works brilliantly :D
