Hi all
I’ve just got a new 1:8 twist Howa 22” sporter barrel in above chambering, dropped into a grs stock with a gen1 vortex PST sat on top and dpt mod up front, nice light thing intended as my first stalking rifle. I just have a couple of questions...
I know all rifles are different, but what bullet weights are people tending to find these things like best, or, what balance are stalkers finding they like best between knock down power and trajectory as I can only find 143 ELDX and 147 ELDM at the mo. It seems to prefer the 143 for now but then it hasn’t even done 50 shots yet so??? Also, say I wanted to stay within 1.5” above/below my LOS so 3” total, what range are people zeroing at to get what MPBR with which bullet weights

I know theory and practice are different, I’m just interested to see what people are finding works best for them...roughly

Thanks in advance

J

129 grn Hornardy 3/4 inch high at 100mtrs no need to do anything to around 225 but have not checked it fully on range but point and shoot no need on reds, knockdown power excellent no issues with the round, heart shots most run less than 30yds. Find it a good round, usually home load but with these find it not really worth the time and effort. Same results on Sika and Fallow .

Anyone running a 20” creed? What’s performance like with the 120g?
I am out of my Sauer 100, 120g group really well lead and Etip, Lapua cases, CCI small rifle magnum primers and 36.5 grains of reloader 15.

130gr game changers have been good in mine. Performed well on deer and always passed through and did the job.
I'm now trying 142eldx. Not shot much with those yet.

24 inch barrel, using 143 eldx, 123g SST s and have 140g eld and Lapua 123g scenar all with R62. 2750, 2900, 2750, 2900 ish respectively.
All of them are silly accurate, eldx are more 'explosive' then SST , depends on what youre using them on, Ive only used them on fox ect, no deer yet.

50 M for zero , youre good for 220 at that, just over an inch high at 100M, depending on what weight of bullet, thats with the 143g

26" barrel, 143 ELDx with R60

Still struggling to find an ideal load

I do not use it on live targets (I use 6.5 x 55 for that) but has proven accurate (2 MOA) out to 1200m
