Why do you need a different safety system? Nothing wrong with the flag safety at all, and it won't interfere with putting a scope on the rifle.Yep, same stock, sights but different safety. I might have to figure out a different safety system so I can scope it.
That flag safety would need to higher for mounts for my liking I’d swap it out for a 2 position flag safety, PH did a good one and Timney (I think) do a modern version you can get them from BrownellsVery good to know- the rifle is still at my gunsmith and I was concerned that the flag wouldn’t clear the bottom of the scope. Once again, you fellas have saved me some worry!
Thanks much
Yes, mine has flag safety , never had a problem with scope mounting. Why do you need a different safety system? Nothing wrong with the flag safety at all, and it won't interfere with putting a scope on the rifle.

Each to his own big objective for a dg rifle I prefer a something more like 1-8x24 mounted low like the iron sights in quick release mounts.Low mounts works fine with flag safety. As you can see:

That’s the PH flag safety I was talking about not the 3 position military one that has to go all the way through 180 degrees. For your complete peace of mind:

Those are the lowest mounts that Parker-Hale did, so even your smaller diameter objective scope is still going to have the eyepiece well clear of the flag safety. Each to his own big objective for a dg rifle I prefer a something more like 1-8x24 mounted low like the iron sights in quick release mounts.
But you’ve removed your iron sights
Yes, Holland's also used a crescent shaped flag safety on their 'scoped rifles and a side safety as well. For your complete peace of mind:
Are, I see now. We're talking at cross purposes. ApologiesThat’s the PH flag safety I was talking about not the 3 position military one that has to go all the way through 180 degrees.

Not quite, what you are depicting is a retrofit 2 pos ‘lo swing’ safety fitted to a military bolt shroud. The original military 3 pos safety goes 180 degrees and only works if you have insanely high rings. Those are the lowest mounts that Parker-Hale did, so even your smaller diameter objective scope is still going to have the eyepiece well clear of the flag safety.
(Incidentally, the rear sight can be slipped back onto its base very easily. And it doesn't interfere with the use of the scope at all. I just took it off while I wasn't using it, rather than risk losing or damaging it).
Most were on military action but had the PH 2 position safety unless later on they had the good PH Trigger fitted with the poorer side safety. Are, I see now. We're talking at cross purposes. Apologies
(Although mine is on a military action, as is the OP's)
Thanks for clearing that up!Not quite, what you are depicting is a retrofit 2 pos ‘lo swing’ safety fitted to a military bolt shroud. The original military 3 pos safety goes 180 degrees and only works if you have insanely high rings.
The OP will, to mount a normal scope at normal height, to either fit a low swing 2 pos safety, or even better, have a 2-3 position side safety fitted, but these require milling work and fitting at around £300 unless an aftermarket unit is purchased at likely an even higher price
If you've got a boxful of the 2-position flags, perhaps the OP will be in touch shortly....Most were on military action but had the PH 2 position safety unless later on they had the good PH Trigger fitted with the poorer side safety.
They safety on your rifle is my favourite and allows the lowest scope mounts to be used, I was luck to be able to buy a box from Bill at Norman Clarke years ago so I still use them on some builds.
