Calling all Parker Hale experts…

Thanks for clearing that up!
But why do you think a side safety is better?
It’s on the RHS so for a right hand shooter carrying their rifle on the right shoulder it’s less likely to get inadvertently knocked off safe to live, also, it’s easier to move to ‘live’ with the shooting hand being on the RHS of the bolt shroud.

I suppose it's a matter of what you get used to. All 3 of my rifles (2 x P-H and 1 x BRNO) have flag safeties, and I like them. The only side safety I have experience of was a CZ, and that could be accidentally knocked into "live" just by thinking about it! Horrible. An accident just waiting to happen.
@Mouse has a Parker-Hale (.243) with a shotgun style safety, and that's really rather stylish.

Some Austrian, Voere I think but will stand corrected, also made Mauser 98 action sporting rifles with a shotgun safety as were early Ruger 77 rifles.

Just to put a cat amongst the safety pigeons I really like the Winchester model 70 safety, but not easy to get unless you go fairly up market, and most of the decent after market ones require US import hassle.

Sorry Fellas- been traveling and haven’t had a chance to post pics of the old boy. I haven’t had a chance to pull it apart for any other markings below wood. Here he is for the enjoyment of all:
