CL55 night licence - post-season reflections

Groups of us were specifically funded to do the course to boost cull numbers in the area.

Given that the DSC1 can now be done without ever seeing a deer, I certainly don't see that it was a pointless course.

As it was put to us by the course provider: how do you as an organisation involved in licensing night shooting, absolve yourself legally should something go wrong... Make it a course.

Having recently applied to renew my CL55 night licence I wondered how others had fared after the first season? The obligations to report outings etc aren't too onerous, so I'm reasonably happy to have been granted one. For me, I have one parcel of land on a permission where a night licence is especially useful and since there is a rather active resident at the foot of the field, I am happy to be fully above board .

Was put to good use on a small piece of land that the fallow only came onto after dark. I also have use of a mobile high seat, which reduces further risk and allows me to quickly and safely thin the numbers out a bit. I have renewed my license for the upcoming season, but will conduct a few visits towards the end of July to see if I need to implement it.

Just another tool in the pocket.

It’s all borlicks and I laugh at the amount of people that have been sucked in by it!

Indeed , as i said earlier if only they put as much effort into shooting deer as they do cert collecting we wouldnt have a deer problem

Mine was awarded just out of fallow season - I have two 30 acre blocks that become completely nocturnal from early season, should be really handy for that. Need to collect my 12 months evidence of damage (despite it being grassland surrounded by forest and very obviously challenged).
