Collection round for carcasses…

Hypothetical at present but if there was a weekly collection in south ( Somerset, Dorset, Hampshire, Wiltshire, Sussex) and one to East Anglia regions what are peoples opinions on these questions;

1) would people prefer bacs payments?

2) do people want instant payments or happy to wait a set 7 days?

3) should head be worth more than clean chest shot?

4) what price would people accept per kg and should different species be different prices?

5) sellers happy to sign disclaimer of some sort saying copper shot?

Thanks

Yes to all of the above 👍

As for head shot, i think a fair all round price is better than more for head shot.

As for price- im not in it for the money so a fair all round flat rate price would do me.

On point 2 - is there a benefit in waiting 7 days (ie does the stalker get more per kg)? If not then a bird in the hand is always preferable…

Not sure . Just hypothetical at moment . Not sure what dealers do.
Guess be flat rate cheap price for instant or slightly better for waiting .

High neck shot deer compared to H& L would be preferred no carcase damage no blown legs, gotta be better price wise, but as said before a reasonable all shot type base price would be brilliant

7 days waiting no problem there, gives the GD time to check he isn't buying a load of blown up meat, gotta work both ways for a reasonable price

A weekly collection say on a Monday would take a lot of worry out of it, gives you a chance to pile a few up as well

If stalkers can look forward to getting back to a reasonable price working to high standard of supply will keep it there, finally a chance to go forward instead of having to find homes for some carcasses especially the smaller species which aren't fetching a lot at the moment

There’s already a couple of game dealers that collect in east anglia.

Waiting 7 days for payment wouldn’t be a problem.

A decent price for venison is what would swing it for you. Some of the local GDs (Bambridges) take the absolute p1ss with their rates

Yes but you can’t always see the damage till it’s skinned or more closely looked at.
That’s why I think 7 days is good to wait and if serious green or damage you can photo and day to supplier take it back or accept no or reduced payment
Would you deduct for fat on the Fallow bucks?

Also a valid point for your questions is the whole “fat deduction” thing with fallow and sometimes reds, I understand the reasoning but it’s one which causes upset with many!

Edit should have read Tim’s post above…!

£3/ kg larder weight would be about fair for a clean carcass, don't you think? Based on some quick sums in my head. No idea what game dealers are currently paying, but that's about what I think they ought to be paying.

Lot of this is down to trust, you put in a crap carcase expect to be knocked back on pennies or the worse you could get the black spot of no return stamped on you as a supplier, on the other hand you turn in decent gear in a presentable condition you would expect a reasonable price, if the GD knocks your price back for no reason feck him off out of it and work with another, hypothetically it is a question of trust and balance

7 days to wait is fine. I don't see why I should subsidise those who have badly shot their deer anymore than they should subsidise me. Premium for head or neck is also acceptable to me as clearly there will be less waste. Set your price. Send photos as evidence of any deductions as Rigby's do and all should be well. Competition is always good and I will shop around. Even 10p/kg makes a bid difference when you weigh in a few fallow or reds.
