I would be very interested to know what the actual muzzle velocity is in your rifle
@dunwater. That ammunition is listed as 2805fps (I assume a 24” barrel) which means that you’ve got a modelled impact speed of 2,500fps. Which that bullet doesn’t look like it’s achieved at all.
velocity would be a bit less than that, it's a 20 1/2 " barrel, so say 2700fps. Zeroed 2" high at 100 it's on at 200 and about 6" low at 300. Those drops are from actual tests . I was getting a 4" group at 300, which is probably more down to me than the rifle.
As I said, that's the first copper slug I've recovered so I've no idea what's typical on game, I'm comparing my results with the test results from Fieldsports tv fired into water.
I have some 270 ammo to test later this week, Sako factory again with a 130 grain Barnes, the velocity boost may cause a bit more expansion, have to say that I'm a bit surprised by the increased bullet length, I knew it was longer but not that long.
I'm personally happy with results so far, previously I was using 140 grain lead ammo and it was losing about 80 grains on impact, the copper gives much better weight retention.
The testing will be on Sika, ruts on and I've no one else to worry about thanks to Covid, just me and the hound. Weather is perfect, truck is running fine really looking forward to it.
