what bullet is that?
aside from the range and velocity I dont see that kind of bruising and damage even when using a .270 with non lead running 130gr at 3100

Shot a sika yesterday on the point of the shoulder joint which left a lot of bone shard damage in the shoulder itself but nothing like the bruising (139gr at 2900fps at 65yds)

Sorry - just saw this . It was a 120gn TTSX - sorry, should have said that in my earlier post. I've another roe hanging in the chiller, same bullet but low neck shot - I'll stick a picture up shortly...

Another one - 120gn Barnes TTSX out of a 6.5x284 at about 3050fps. Shot at about 120yds. Exit side and dropped on the spot.

Barnes TTSX here - no issues. 120gn through a 6.5x284. Everything has dropped where it should. I’ve a roe in the chiller to skin off when I get a minute - I’ll try and take some pics of entry and exit. It was only 75yds though so velocity will have been up there!

Just be cautious, the monometal bullets typically rely on higher velocity to perform optimally compared to lead cup and core bullets. This means that faster lighter bullets generally perform better than heavy/slow. There is a thread that shows better expansion at lower velocity from the Fox brand but I’m not sure that they do a truly heavy bullet

The Peregrine hunting bullets have a brass initiator installed. This is designed in such a way as to ensure expansion at low impact velocities, 1600fps for VLR4 and 1500fps for VRG3. Check them out at Peregrine Home

I have always been a fan of heavy for calibre bullets. I have had to change my thinking when it comes to monolithic bullets.

I have used them in South Africa for a couple of years and am now reloading for use in the UK. I am very happy with them so far.

I assume by copper you mean solid copper ?

If thats the case I've used Barnes X , TSX and TTSX bullets over the years . I've not noticed any greater damage or lesser for that matter . They seemed to kill just as well as a "normal" lead copper jacketed bullet .

I use the ttsx 120g and 2950fps in my 6.5x55 and rate them very highly I do not use anything else now, 95% drop on the spot cannot ask for more than that........

I have been using copper monolithic in my 6.5 swede for over a year although I do switch between these and accubonds but i have made the decision to go completely lead free this coming year. I have a blaser with 1 in 8.5 twist and so here comes the issue with copper........I have had no issues with terminal performance well out past 300 meters so no issues with whether they kill or not. In 6 months I shot 150 roe, fallow and muntjac with them.

the issue is more accuracy and with a 120 grn bullet which is a lot longer than it’s lead brother you do need a fast twist rate barrel and I find 1 in 8.5 on the edge for a 120 gun bullet.

i have managed to get exceptional accuracy from 120grn Nosler e-tips although I was using RL19 powder and only getting 2850 FPS, I will be running tests with N560 and I know that I can safely get 3000 FPS

I have struggled so far with accuracy on Barnes TTSX 120 and Hornady GMX 120 but this could be seating depth??? Again I will be trying these more this summer (if we are ever allowed out!)

I also tried the Barnes 127grn LRX - no good and then I read the box 1 in 8 twist or faster.......no wonder! So if you have a fast twist rate in your barrel go for heavy bullets but otherwise go lighter, with the 6.5 you could even drop to 110 or 100 grain
