Covid-19

Agreed.

No talk of herd immunity from China where they seem to be approaching containment with a very small percentage of their very large population infected, ask yourself why.

So how bad will this get
The honest answer is pretty bad. We hope that we can delay a peak in cases and flatten the curve. To do this we must follow the advice given. As said before we have some very good medical officers who know what they are talking about. If we fail to delay the peak we will see what has happened in Italy. The health service will be overwhelmed and people who could be treated will die because of lack of resources. At present in Italy if you are over 60 or over 50 with other medical issues you are denied Intensive care support.
Do not underestimate the severity of this virus, don’t panic but do follow advice. Wash your hands regularly and try not to go to busy public areas.

I'm really struggling to see the funny side if this !
So am I we are an Ireland just look how few cases Malta and Gibraltar have, Malta have a mandatory 14 day quarantine period for anybody entering the country, we just carry on as normal?

In the bank yesterday.

Gave the teller my paying in book & in order to lift the page, she licked the tip of her finger first...

...paying in book is now in a ziplok bag & my hands had a good scrub with a disinfectant wipe with added isopropyl alcohol.

There's a fair few people just on this thread that've had... or possibly could have had "allegedly" (for any Lawers lurking...), the dreaded lurgy without even knowing it.
Myself, Mrs Orvil and the wee monster came down with a "bug" at the end of January. They were in bed for 2-3 days, me... I sneezed twice, blew a few impressive hanky fulls for half a day and that was it.
Don't think that was Covid-19 - sneezing sounds like the flu. Corvid-19 is cough, temperature and muscle aches.

Read somewhere that they might have to withdraw treatment from older less healthy people to better help younger ones who have more chance of getting better!
Think they should look at a persons record and see if they’ve served their country in anyway, including whether they’ve paid taxes and NI.
Some that will need treatment might never have contributed and if they get better, they never will.
Ken.

NZ now have a mandatory 14 day quarantine for all visitors entering the country.
That’s a bugger, my trip was all arranged flights booked & paid for, end of March.
Now postponing until later this year.

This although simple explains the concept of social distancing and why it works. Option 4 is impractical but if we can adopt option 3 then the peak is lower, health services won’t be swamped and doctors will not have to make choices of who get treatment or not.
in italy if you are over 60, or over 50 with diabetes, heart problems or chest problem then you are not offered ITU. Let’s not get into that state.

That will never happen. In crisis situations you use the simplest form of triage. Same in a battle field it’s about chance of survival not social status. Let’s hope we never get to the situation were we have to make the choices the Italian medics are having to make now.
