Same as roedeerred, swallows have been here a fortnight now. Not heard a cuckoo locally for about 10 years if not more! We get them in South Wales just not in my area.
Heard the cuckoo this morning whilst out in the forest close to Moniaive, Dumfries and Galloway.
I've been listening for the blighter for weeks. . . Spring is officially here !!!
Swallows here for two weeks.
More interesting is that the Grass Snakes are mating, seen the largest female we have ever seen (an atypical 6ft and about an inch and half thick) and the brightest largest male we have ever seen (about 3ft); might explain the low amphibian numbers this year....
Saw a cuckoo being hounded by a magpie this week. On the river today with loads of sand martins, house martins and swallows, just waiting for the swifts now.
