Well JAK has been with me for just over the past fortnight and boy have I enjoyed it!
- 3 syndicate days (pheasant).
- 2 blank stalks, (why is it the fallow are never around when you need them).
- Problem foxes
- Ooh and spent some time in the truck when I have forgotten to take the bloody thing!
- And a surprise!
Well we will start with the Pheasant shoot - small DIY syndicate loads of good dog work and I managed to bag a trio of cock birds on the first day out with old JAK Shooting over my springer bitch..... Perfect start.
I then decided to try for some fallow and this is where it all started going a bit wrong. Well to say the least the fallow were not there and have not been seen since.!????
Second outing same scenario - sit in seat and watch the world go by waiting to see if any heat sources are picked up with the thermal.... you guessed it! NONE..... FFS!
Well I was starting to think my Pheasant trio was my contribution for old JAK.... Wrong again!
(Apologies if this is dragging out)
I was In work, pretty **** day as work goes but had some worrying news as I come out to a text from the Farmer reading “ring me ASAP”!
Ooh **** what’s happened now? What have I done!
So I give him a call and to my surprise I get the response I have a friend who’s over run with foxes in need of your assistance... Sign me up I say and arrange to visit the farm.
A quick walk around with the farmer to show me the area and boundaries etc, who tells me she’s over run with foxes seen loads this week.... (I thought to myself- bollocks she’s probably seen one a few times around the lambing field)
Long story short - went there that night spotted 5 with the thermal

oooh **** better wise up and get on with the task in hand!
Shot the first a small vixen shortly after setting up, game on....
15 minutes later dog fox down and I start to think

can I make it 3?
You bet I can!
hour later a large old dog Fox is seen in the woods working through and marking his territory with one thing on his mind! Lamb for dinner!
He really made me work for it trying to get behind me every opportunity he had and then unfortunately he succumbed to the 243 at 110metres! Yiippppeee
That’s 3

Back to the truck to fetch JAK a quick photo and home for some well deserved sleep.

(happy man). Went back the following night and mopped up the other 2.... JAK unfortunately missed this journey as I was in a different vehicle!
I’ve been very lucky to have made some wonderful memories whilst I have had David’s Knife and I’m very honoured to have been a part of its journey. I have told many people about the story and they have all been fascinated by it.
The biggest memory of this knifes time with me will be when my 11 year old son asked could he be part of the story too and made his own little contribution. I’ve put a photo up and have blanked out his face however I have left his smile as the picture paints a thousand words. This was his first solo stalk around the farm yard.

happy father happy Son....
Thank you.....
