Daypack Choice - Swedteam Rolltop, Sabre 40 or Fjallraven Friluft

Gentlemen,

Need a new day pack - day use only, but want the ability to use it for hunting as well as general mounting walking. Needs to have ability to strap polls, ice-axe etc on if needs be, indeed do quite a bit of ski touring so useful if it has double straps so can carry skis as well. I am quite tall so it needs a long back. Like a pack that sits close into the body. Preferably a waterproof material, although I do use water proof stuff sacks for all my bit of gear.

I will use in stalking and its to carry bits and pieces - ie waterbottle, food, down jacket for when sitting, dog lead etc, spotting scope etc. Don't want a Roe sack, but useful occasionally to be able to tie a buck on the back and carry it out if needs be - ie needs to be a fabric that is blood / much proof, or at least washable.

Had a look at the Fjallraven - looks quite lightly built, although should be tough enough. Karrimor Sabre 45 similar price and tough as old boots. The Swedteam Rolltop looks really nice, but haven't seen it in the flesh.

Don't want Kammo / Military look - nice muted greens are good.

Many thanks

Take a look at the Highlander rucksacks - they have a huge range in every colour known to man to suit almost every use and you'll save yourself £100.

They are perfectly servicable, I have a Forces 33 for day use and it's probably seen 400 days out now and still going strong.

This ^^^^^^.

I have one of these in black, great bag that has seen some hard times and is holding up well, i did buy a hi viz rain cover for it as well (used predominantly on the moors and for MTB shenanigans) as it is only water repellant.

Pop over & try the Vorn pack; it is very, very good. In fact I'll be heading up Arthur's Seat at 11:00 & can bring it if you want to try it.

Whatever your final choice of pack is, I can't recommend carrying one of the Decathlon roll-up game bags highly enough for carrying out the occasional carcass. Cheap as chips, I keep one in all vehicles - just in case. :D

i'll happily give a reccondendation for the Sabre 45 - its comfortable to carry with a full weekends camping load, its very robust, and its a good shape: no tapering, no silliness, just a big hole at the top and a big sack to take it all.

the quality of its build/materials gives you a price busting option: ebay - i bought mine 3 years ago for about £40. i reckon it was about 10 years old at that point, and i wouldn't be remotely surprised if it gives me at least another decade of hard use.
