DMQ Aw Re brief

As many of you know I am a witness and an assessor. I have had no email about charging to be "on the books". I certainly do not agree with it. When I do a portfolio there is a box I fill in with the witness number. So they will know who is actually doing the job. As Sikamalc said , there was a thin out a few years ago , of those not witnessing, but it looked good on their CV. I work out of the SGA Centre now. I will be at the SGA AGM on Friday and will ask those that should know what they have heard. J

Well I had my email on Friday. It seems to have hit a nerve with many and I can appreciate their views.
I enjoy witnessing and I have never had any issues from portfolio assessors or the DMQ. I don’t charge for witnessing however, I think I will pay up and sit through the re brief just to see what it’s like.

At the end of the day 5hrs of possible entertainment for £40 could be good value!

Email today regarding a re brief of approved witnesses, now going to cost £40 to sit in on a 5 hour midweek teams meeting from what I gather. Having been an AW for 20 years I think I’ll be calling time now.
In my opinion the DSC2 went down the toilet when reduced to a single cull.

Email to DMQ now sent. Watch this space.

Well I was in the process of applying but i think im going to give it a miss as in usual DMQ fashion its in PDF files only and i really don't understand how to mess around with them. Why is the whole DSC2 system so stupidly awkward.
I had a fairly blunt email stating the price and the date it all has to be in has been stated on the website since start of Feb. It makes me wonder why we bother supporting them at all let alone paying £127 for the privilege. Without AWs they wouldn't be able to run the DSC2 yet they make you feel like they are doing you a favour

One thing that resonates with me on this comment is the ‘bluntness’, excessive formality and short manner that their emails are written in. It’s like getting an email from the headmaster or something!?? Very impersonal sign off….

“Kind regards,

DMQ Working Group - on behalf of the DMQ Chairman….. “

WTF?

I was an AW almost since it started. But a year or two ago (for those who remember) DMQ were going to charge us for the pleasure of being one.
Having never charged to witness a good many keepers and forces lads I politely told BASC/ DMQ where to place my AW cert. Never even acknowledged.

Be nice if they even responded to my Email.

Perhaps it was to the point. But at days end they have still not had the courtesy to respond.
Bit ignorant of them.

Perhaps BASC’s own @Conor O'Gorman has been watching/reading this & can pass on the feedback to those at DMQ?

Seems to me that an organisation that has taken the lead in developing & promoting best practice & competence for deer stalkers has rather taken for granted the resource & experience that has enabled it to put itself at the front of the game & is now about to find out what happens when you take people for granted!

Sheer arrogance in my mind.

You reap what you sow…

A reply would be nice and your correct donkey basher they normally sit in the same office and change fleeces depending what meeting there at. If BASC can come on here and ask us to help them by filling in forms of support its time they spoke out regards what one of there arms are doing.

Thanks, I will have a look.

Fingers crossed you’re able to get the message across… rather than charging for training, I’d suggest DMQ would be better off looking at how they can reward those who have put in the effort & support. Just to be clear, I’m not an AW & have no skin in the game here, I just see what’s going on & hope someone can prevent the car crash that’s inevitable if nothing is done.

I got the email, paid the £40 and booked on the first briefing. I’ll make sure I get the £40 back from future witnessing, didn’t really see it as a problem to be honest, cpd is a thing with a lot of other things many of us do for stalking and in general work such as first aid, atv tickets etc. there have been quite a few changes since the last in person briefing I attended somewhere around 10 years ago and that was in person so probably cost more than £40 in diesel.

I’ve never charged before either but have recently had quite a few requests and added a small charge to cover my time for the paperwork (not a lot now it’s only one stalk), no one has had an issue with it yet.

As I said last week , I broad this up to our head of centre. Guess what, even he hasn't been told about it.!! He has had all the phone calls and watches SD . He does have a phone call booked with out DMQ guy this week. IF we have to do it he is asking for more venues much firther North. And if it goes ahead it will be just as boring as the original. J
