Dog sharing with a Mini Rottweiler.

I mentioned in a different post that we were on a "Dog Sharing Scheme" so as I have some time to spare here is the full story.
The girlfriend of our younger son bought a pup but shortly after that her hours and situation at work changed which meant that she could not take the pup to work with her and longer. This meant that the pup was having to stay home some of the days as PJ (The younger son) was also working shifts and he could not care for the pup every day. They decided that this was not fair on the pup so Des (Our older son) stepped in and said that he would like the pup as he could take it with him to work and it could stay in the office with the girls during the day time. This was fine but the office girls did not work every day so this plan was flawed too! (Unfortunately Des had let his heart rule his brain)
This is where we come in! We had met the pup on numerous occasions and knew it was house trained and pretty well behaved (If a little crazy at times - Very much like the both of us) so we said that we would help out and have the pup through the week when Des could not take it to work, which seemed to please all concerned, including the pup - Hence we are now on a "Dog sharing scheme"!
Now this is where yet another problem comes in - I never have and never will be a big fan of small lap dogs that yap at their own shadow, and to add insult to injury the pup has been named Walter! Now come on, who in their right mind names a dog WALTER! Even when the wife takes to pup out for a walk and she gets asked what it is called she says it's name is Spike, that is how embarrassing it is having a dog named Walter!
Anyhow "Walter is a Pug x Griffon and as I am not a big lover of these tiny little lap dogs I have had to convince myself that Walter is a Mini Rottweiler! Well he is marked very much like a Rottie, he is roughly the same shape as a Rottie (Well he has a leg at each corner, a bitey end and a waggy end) and he really is as game as hell. If a someone knocks at the front door, or even worse if someone he doesn't know comes in to the flat he will really tell them in no uncertain terms that they are on his territory! Even though he is only 6 months old and stands less than 9 inches at the shoulder he is quite a guard dog - If you can overlook the fact that he is nothing more than a tiny little lap dog called Walter!

So there you have it, that is how we have ended up on a "Dog Sharing Scheme" with a Mini Rottie called Walter!

p.s. The wife has put her foot down and has told me that there is no way I am taking our "Mini Rottie" out and trying to train him as a gun dog - She has got no sense of adventure or imagination that wife of mine!

He'd fit in a pocket and keep your hands warm while waiting in a highseat. Then I am sure he'd soon get the hang of tracking for you. An off cut of offal looks like it would last him a week :)
