double rifles

well gentlemen the calibre is going to be 30-06 and the side by side does look good and very tempting but i am rather taken with the under over option of which i know york guns have is stock .
Im going to call me gun smith mate at 9 am to get the prices . Im going to slap a 6x42 pecar on the top its an older model but the glass is crystal clear and will give it the classic traditional big game look . Lol .
I must remember to get some far plugs because im so used to a sound mod i think the 30-06 is going to bark fairly . Lol

cheers lee

In the early seventies I had a double merkel in a combination of 7x57 and 12 bore, double 7x57, double twelve and a .22wmr sleeve to slip into the 12 bore if I wanted to.
It was a very beautiful gun, all cased complete with a 6x40 'scope.
The only reason I got rid of it was that when I came back to UK I used the double 12 bore mostly and it weighed a ton!!
I did not lose money on it but I had a hell of a job to sell it.
It went eventually to a American chap that lived in Germany, so you could say it went 'Home' as it were.

`lee`.
If you are going to re-load your ammo. the o/u is the better option as vertical displacement of the bullet is NO problem and can be lived with.
Lateral errors are more serious and inconvenient.

Getting both barrels to shoot to the same point of aim is always a problem with `doubles`.

Experimenting with different bullet weights in each tube can be rewarding.
With mine I used to put a 173gr in the bottom tube and a 130gr in the top.
When the bottom barrel was sighted into centre at 100yds the top one shot 3 inches higher.
In effect I had TWO rifles on ONE stock.
