Drone Pro to be discontinued

I heard on the grape vine that there was a rumour that FLIR were going to discontinue the DP. I have just seen a thread on NV forum that appears to confirm this.

FLIR must be mad and Pulsar must be thinking their lottery numbers have just come up.

I wonder if somebody clever will make a similar but better scope for the market?

Or perhaps someone with the necessary will buy the rights to it and produce it ? Hope so as I love mine and would gladly buy another should I need.

Its junk anyway, thermal is so much better

I have a feeling many will disagree!
I use a hand held thermal spotter but then a Drone Pro on the rifle, I have always found that whilst the thermal will show you when there is an animal there, the animal identification from the Drone pro is on a different level to what you get on a thermal

Oh yeah, its really difficult to id foxes with a thermal scope, i mean, they look just like ................ foxes!

Don't listen to Straightpull6547 - he's a well known Drone Hater - (Carl Moore wouldn't play his stupid games)
His hatred for the Drone pro is well documented on this site
I've had 2 drones and have been shooting with a 75mm, 640 core thermal for 2 years and for quarry identification the Drone pro still wins on occasions where it's difficult to positively identify quarry with the thermal.
The target really needs to be moving to positively ID with a thermal. Where I shoot, something lying down in a field could be a fox, badger, roe deer, rabbit or hare - until it moves you can't be sure
My main reasons for changing were the narrow field of view compared to my thermal spotter, which made finding targets in the Drone difficult at short ranges, and the white out produced by reflections from foliage (common to all digital NV scopes)
Having said that, I'm really disappointed that FLIR/Armasight are discontinuing the Drone because it's still the best digital NV scope available.
As has been said, Yukon/Pulsar must be ****ing themselves laughing

Cheers

What stupid games?

my drone broke, carl didnt fix it, i proved him a liar, flir gave me a new one. I lost 4 months of use, carl lost lots of sales, i sold the second one because carl wouldnt deal with a second warranty issue (resolved the problem myself via a secret third party).

its a shame because it is a good scope, they just needed to acknowledge the problems many suffered from. Oh they have now.

Perhaps the makers were having trouble sleeping at night after charging two grand for a small electronic devise.

Hi Straightpull, I have always found if you treat people with respect, they will give the same in reply. I have one of the first DPx10.I have had two problems with it. One it would not turn off when wet this was in the first month. Carl sent courier to pick up at house and returned five days, great service. Second was my fault out of warranty I dropped it of the dinning table. The red filter was not screwed in, so I smashed and cracked the front housing and other unknown damage. Thinking I was fu***d. Phoned Carl explained what I had done. No problem send some pictures so he could see the damage. Posted it to him a few emails phone calls later drone is returned totally refurbished like new.
Service was just like sending it to Swarovski totally repaired and returned.
So I totally disagree with you Carl is a true Gent with great customer service.

Im pleased you got good service, i didnt.

I have to agree, ID through a thermal is not to be relied on for the shot, also when a fox is not moving it could be , deer, badger, etc, a good spotter and IR is still needed in my opinion, cheers

Are there any third parties who are set up for repairing all the armasite discontinued products out there ?

Surely there must be someone

The game is changing ....every year the equipment gets better...the capability improves and more arrows go into the quiver.

At the moment....I would still rely on optical NV...I am a digital fan over phos tube) but the image quality of thermal has come on 8n leaps and the prive point has fallen.

I havent really been attracted to the Drone Pro due to cost. I have the Photon...which...for my needs at the moment is great and does what I need. Admittedly one is a Mk1 and the other is an extreme electronic ret model.

I would spend my next wedge on thermal. Whether I go spotter or mounted....not yet sure. Would want to spend some time in the field to see how I work with the technology.

Is the day of a hybrid digi NV and thermal combined that far away. Certainly an interesting concept. Both have massive plus points and both have issues....combined...all should be able to be overcome.
