DSC level 2

Yes, that includes fruitless stalks. I have the numbers from an AW - they're not made up.
My own DSC2 actually required 16 Stalks ;) many, many times with either no deer spotted at all, or no safe shot possible.

15 stalks  I have just signed off another stalk for Tikka 308, two stalks two deer. I am not saying that is how it works every time, but if your AW is saying that is the average I would look for another AW.
However as long as the candidate knows his stuff he should have no problem with passing, but I am aware that many that apply to undertake Level 2 are not ready and anyone considering taking it should make sure they have reasonable experience.

I agree with this but over the past year I have done 8 stalks for DSC2. 2 which I never saw cull animals. The rest I paid up front for 6 stalks with 1 AW (No one on SD I will add) and never got a shot. You dont expect to get something everytime you go out thats the nature of the beast, but I was encouraged to take a shot at Deer on a neighbours land, one on the crest of a hill, one through fencing over 120m away and that is just the surface. It's very difficult to stalk woodland Fallow when your AW is stomping around like a heard of elephants in a rage! (Anyway enough of that). Suffice to say I have put that down to a bad experience and a lesson learnt so I think it really does pay to listen to the guys off of here and go with the recommendations. Hopefully this year I should hopefully get it put to bed though.

I'm not going to say how many or few stalks I've done. However I will say I have been on a good few and shot a fair number of deer before putting in for level 2. Make sure you can actually "stalk" and shoot off sticks to increase the chances in woodland stalking. If it was a walk in the park then there would be little point in the exercise. This is supposed to test your skill as a stalker and then everything from the point of getting on target. I have enjoyed all my stalks and take each one as a normal stalk while learning something from each one. It is difficult not to feel under pressure, however that is the worst thing to happen, try and enjoy it and relax, be yourself and stalk as you would normally. Good luck.

And try and remember not to take your cull animal with a 4x4 before you meet up with your AW in the morning

Thanks guys for a great thread. As someone who is keen to take DSC2 this has been invaluable information and made me fit a restraining bolt. DSC1 can be passed with a few weeks of studying but by the sounds of it DSC2 is different and the common theme is dont rush into it. Get some stalks under your belt before starting.
And choose your AW.
thank again.

I would say that that the experience that you have had was appalling and maybe that person should not even be aspiring to be a Witness. From what you are saying it looks like he should be sitting his L1 again. Its a shame that a lot more people will have the same result with this character untill the word gets round.
