DSC1 Advice

Evening all,
I'm relatively new to stalking and am hoping to complete the DSC1 qualification this year and would be very appreciative of some advice.
So far the obstacle I've run into is that all of the courses I've been able to find that are within a reasonable distance of me (I'm based in the south east) are either over three or four days over a weekend (Thurs-Sun or Fri-Sun) but frustratingly, due to my work commitments as a teacher I am never able to do a weekday, unless it falls within a holiday period.
I've not yet been able to find a course local to me that runs in a school holiday so I'm a bit stumped. Does anyone have any suggestions or know of any other providers I may not have tried? So far I've looked at dates with the BDS, BASC and the NGO.

Any advice gratefully received.

Speak to Jim Riley at chippenham park nr Newmarket. He runs a DSC1 and is a great guy. I’m just the other side of the tunnel and wasn’t too bad a drive for 3 days.

If you just want the certification I'm sure you could study remotely and do the assessment as suggested but I learnt a huge amount by attending the four day course facilitated by two instructors from BDS who shared a wealth of information that you won't find in the study material alone. I also really enjoyed meeting other students on the course who all had interesting information to share.

Have fun and enjoy a great learning opportunity whichever way you decide to do it.

If your availability to attend a multi-day training course is limited then I can recommend Premier Wildlife Services online DSC1 course, based near Stockbridge in Hampshire. You receive a manual, do an online training course in your own time when it suits you, then when you’re ready you attend a single assessment day with other likeminded folk where you undertake the written assessment and the practical and shooting assessments. Depending on where you’re based in Kent you might be well under a couple of hours drive away. I did the course with Mike Allison and his team who run the training and assessments about a year ago during lockdown and it worked perfectly for me.

I did the studying at home, and then did 1 day before the test with the instructor just to make sure I settled my nerves or any questions I had.

Thank you to everyone for your suggestions and help - it's definitely pointed me in the right direction and given me some ideas about how to move forward. Much appreciated

I’m in Kent and I did this in late 2020. Worked very well. Especially during Covid.

Try Jelen PWS - I'm in the South East and had similar restrictions on availability. Studied using their online course then did single day assessment. My experience with them for this and subsequent outings has been great. Deer experts in Hampshire UK for all training, consulting and deer control

Tempting, but I'd rather be honest and up front if I can. My mother always taught me that 'honesty is always the best policy'.

Unfortunately, I've found that approach has paradoxically got me in a fair bit of trouble too

I’m in Kent too and have been doing the jelen PWS online course. I feel it’s a good course presented well and have my assessment day booked for the end of April. It’s been easy to fit around a busy life with young family (I’d struggle to be able to do a in person course for several days).
