Electronic fox callers

They sure will and they'll smell anything strange from multiples of that distance.

It could be a simple thing like washing your hands using soap before going out and then transferring the odour to the caller, storing the caller next to something with an unnatural smell in the shed or the jeep or smoking a cigarette shortly before putting it in place.
im going to be honest so dont judge me
i never shower before going out, ive got a deodorant with no smell and i always put on the same clothes on (that arnt washed between trips)
it seems to work as ive had quite a few foxes now with the wind blowing towards them from me and not had one run or try and get around me
yes very scummy but needs must, im out on my own so who cares
the worst bit is getting in at gone 3.00am and having to jump in the shower before bed lol
my led light is taped over on mine foxhunter but more for my piece of mind than the foxes i feel

It's the sensible thing to do (or not do) but a lot of people overlook it.

Another tip I got decades ago was if you know you're going fishing or hunting the following morning having a good ride the night before increase's your chances of success, something to do with the womens pheromones attracting wild creatures. The logic put forward was look at the statistics of women catching record fish as a percentage of the amount of anglers that are female.

Works for me anyway, might be only a psychological edge but every little helps.

Do you let it play continually or on and off every couple of minutes? I don’t know what others do but continual calling seems odd to me. I scatter a bit of cat food around mine about 10m from it which they may smell before they get to it and if they come in when I’m not scanning with the thermal it can hold them for a while.
I’m find it less effective than it used to be but I know that there is a lot of fox shooting in the area. Perhaps its natural selection and the less cautious ones get shot leaving the more wary to breed??

Ill be sure to forward this logic to the misses 🤣🤣

I call on and off , I see more guys lamping from the rd, I've never seen anyone else on my perms as no one else has permission or hasn't had since I've been on them

Call for a short periods of time whilst scanning, your trying to mimic a wild creature in distress....its not going to say "hey come get me" for a half hr or more, short sharp calls.

I put mine about 150m out and bait in-between, far enough away that any movement of mine shouldn't be seen then.

Caller stays in boot next too mat I lay on and clothing rarely washed.

Hedgehog sounds have been quite pro active also

You are really over thinking it too much.
I call constantly, but keep changing the call if nothing shows , its amazing how quick a fox can appear after changing the call.
If you are calling you dont need to bait as the fox is coming to the call anyway.
I keep my caller in the house and wash my clothes often and none of this affects my calling success.
Main thing to worry about is having the wind right although I've still had foxes coming in downwind.
I've always said there is no rulebook , just get out and call 👍

Is there any harm in trying to mimic what would happen in nature?? Keeps me awake best part of the time anyway
No harm at all , as said there are no rules.
Do whatever you have to in order to get results

We all do things differently, in the end its what makes you happy 😁

There are foxes which are really clever and foxes which are dumb ....just like us really 🤣

At 100m should I one be able to hear the caller
Animals hearing is way above our levels. Especially deaf blokes who’ve been shooting too long. A fox’s night vision is also very good. If you’re waiting for Charlie to appear make sure you are tucked away in the shadows or in a high seat.
Also make sure the wind is in your favour.

That is what the most exciting and challenging thing about foxing...when you have to pit your wits against Charlie, and a smart cunning Charlie at that, its a true accomplishment to use tools at your disposal to get them in the bag. The not so sharp ones though do very much remind me of our human brethren 🤦🏻‍♂️

Tip I found with mine is to always turn the volume down to zero when you finish. Doesn't get me any more foxes but when you're climbing down from highseat or putting the thing out next time and lean on the remote it doesn't start with "shagging werewolf" call at max volume and scare the life out of you.

Been there done that...hence the glow in dark tape 🤣

Another tip is after you have finished calling to hang around for 5 to 10 minutes ...its surprising how many foxes show up then wondering where the sound has gone.

Foxing is fascinating, sometimes very easy sometimes frustrating but always enjoy it 😁

I wouldn't be without mine now, at first I had no luck but persevered by trying different Volume levels and direction etc, It seems to me that you have to believe it's going to work and in my case it does, had a friend recently with a Duck pond being raided every night by one or more Foxes, my Friend had tried and failed to get them, 20 minutes with the caller and 3 dead Foxes Job done. working for me at the moment is the Tim lester beer can call and Vixen in heat, But Vixen in heat needs playing loud for 3 or 4 cycles then reduce volume. The last 2 shot recently attacked to caller, Im using the Icotec Nightstalker, Its the same as the Outlawbutwith UK specific calls on it.

Dont know if its just me, but since I invested in thermal & NV, I shot a lot more foxes by just staying quiet & invisible, knowing where foxes travel is half the game. Give it half an hour & move on.
However it will be different if you have lots of cover, mine is mainly agricultural fields, meadows interspersed with copses. They usually travel along streams & ditches, head to ponds pit holes & copses. They always check well used rabbit warrens. Game cams are great.
As the great man BB said. "Study to be quiet."
