Eley subsonic bullet performance

40yds ish,was 7 or 8 years ago,a mate gave me some to try,he had same problem as me,them eley subs are great,my cz will do 0.5 inch groups at 70yds.

Hard to imagine. My Marlin 880 SQ shoots shotgun patterns with them but most of my CZ guns will shoot them into tiny groups (at closer ranges) for the most part. It must be an odd lot or a pure ammo preference. I have had nothing but good luck with them when shot in a rifle that liked them. How many rounds did you fire, may I ask? ~Muir

I use 40 grain subs in my cz and it doesn't seem to matter which brand Ely, CCI and Winchester all perform without altering the zero, mind you normally only 40-50 yds. :thumb:

Oly: If I can get that drive to work, I'll post the set.

The really fascinating rounds are the Hyper Heavyweights, as I call them: The CCI Velocitor and the Aguila Interceptor. Both use 40 grain bullet at high speeds. The CCI does 1430 fps and the Interceptor clocks at over 1500 fps (despite being marketed at 1470 fps). Both of these will destroy vermin. With the Interceptor I made 26 consecutive one-shot kills on cottontails at ranges from 20 yards to 130 yards. This was field shooting, much of which was off hand. Impressive to say the least. I am a big believer in subs, and I tolerate light hyper velocity rounds, but when it absolutely has to be killed with authority, either of these 40 grain speed demons is what I grab. Too bad the Aguila isn't readily available in your neck of the woods...~Muir

I'd like to try some of those aguila interceptors, noise isn't an issue for me either and since using "hypers" I have found subs to be a bit of a damp squib, as it were, they also seem a little variable - some phut, some pop, some actually break the sound barrier I reckon. The yellow jackets and stingers just hit a bit harder.

Tried the Stingers, Velocitors and Yellow Jackets today. All grouped very well with little between them all. For my rifle the Remington Yellow Jackets probably grouped a margin better, plus they are only have a different vertical POI as the Eley Subs I use, whereas the CCI's were not only higher, but also an inch left.

Does anyone know what the yellow is on the yellow jackets? I presume it's for marginal aesthetics only as the lead is clearly visible below...which is also easier to clean than the copper jackets of the CCI's.

Finally, does anyone know the difference (apart from the stated "case weight"), or rather reason, for two different "Index" of Yellow Jackets - as can be seen in the "Specifications" tab of the Remington website - http://www.remington.com/products/ammunition/rimfire/22-rimfire/yellow-jacket.aspx One has an index of 1700+ the other as 1722 (which I have been using). The only difference I can see on the website when under "comparison" is Average Weight Case...anyone shed any light on the matter?

I have always used eley subs in my t bolt but recently switched to Winchester and they seem to be a far better round, shoots tighter groups and not as dirty they eley seem very waxy

I think I read/heard that the wax coating is to help with temperature insensitivity. Group well for me.

I asked remington about the yellow jackets, they have this response - They a brass coated. Essentially this means they are tumbled in brass "dust" that coats the bullet. 21074 (1722) is in 50 count boxes and 21280 (1700+) is in 100 count boxes. They are the same loads.
