Equipment with good life expectancy

I have found a few things that have impressed me over the years that fall into this thread well.

1) lows GTX combat boots. Had mine since 2013 bought for security work doing in excess of 18 hour days on my feet. Still going strong!

2) Halfords advanced tool kit. Bought it new back in 2010 on offer when I was in my early 20's. Still going strong and what's broken has been replaced under the lifetime warranty (broke usually through abuse)

3) grandad tools/spanners..........thanks dad for letting me have them.

4) Ase Northstar mid that I bought second hand. Well over 1500 rounds later it is still doing its job.

5) buckler dealer boots. Brilliant value for money.

6) Whitby lock knife.......bought when I was 15. Blade profile has changed from all the sharpening but still always close to hand.

7) musto jackets. Smart enough for the pub, hard enough for beating/foxing/stalking and last year's.

I like this thread - buy once, cry once but it also needs to be value - ie lasting, consistent, dependable.

Bits I think are great

Swiss Army knife,
Petzl head torch (they do affordable to expensive models)

Tikka rifles - they work.
Leupold scope and rings
Schmidt &Bender scopes
Sphur Rings
Ase Utra moderators (had mine for near 20yrs )

5:11 trousers - worn every day, yard, field, DIY everything they have knee pads and reinforced backside and stretchy waist - silicone and white paint is the thing that gets them retired.

Fortis - jacket

Kuiu - expensive so get in the sale but some nice everyday wear.

Ase mods is a great shout, my utra and jet z are properly bomb proof.

If only we could buy things that didn't rely on electrics.
That is exactly the thing that limits product life longevity. The moment it has power it suddenly has a very finite lifespan because of the rate of decay of electronic components.

Makes you wonder how many of us will have ‘antique’ digital scopes still kicking about in 10 years or so!!

Jet-z mod i have here as been on five different rifles in 15 years. Like the man said ( bomb proof)..

Leatherman Super Tool. AyA Yeoman Ejector. Kenwood Chef my late Grandmother's. Leather cartridge bag purchased SH 40 years ago. Tiley hat.

I too can’t stand crap products that just fall apart.

Some things I’ve found that work:

Danner or Matterhorn boots. Both excellent.

Musto field jackets

Leatherman tools

Tikka rifles

S & B scopes

ASE moderators

All good gear.

Being an actual collector with a collection is considered good reason in itself.
So it is. If you have an interest and want to collect a certain type of firearm, such as, for example WW2 battle rifles (not including those new fangled semi-autos of course) or maybe a representative example of each Lee Enfield or whatever, then that's good reason in itself. You can have them authorised for use on ranges assuming you are a member of one and even for zeroing on land and stalking if you so wish. Although I'm not sure there's too many used in the UK these days for stalking. Although that, in any case is going somewhat off topic. Anyway, I wonder if you said you wanted to build up a collection of modern foxing calibre rifles, giving your reason as building up a collection of those whether that would be within the remit of a collection being good reason. Way off topic now...

Beware of old things that are in really great condition ( it might well be it never really worked that great ) . Mint guns from the past are often enough the ones that did not work so great, not always but very , very commonly it is so .

I’ll throw Accuracy International rifles into the mix. I have an AI AX and it is solid. I’d use it for everything if it wasn’t so damn heavy. That and Nightforce.

ASE utra’s also get my vote. One of mine in particular has had 1000’s down it from a .260 .308 &.300WM

Spyderco and Benchmade folders

Fenix torches (China yes, but the quality and performance have been proven time and again).

Hagloffs rugged mountain pants.

car wise, I know everyone will go with Hilux (and with good reason) but I’d also add the Subaru Outback which has given me 50k miles of trouble free motoring including Devon and Scotland.
