Failed rifle sling

Here is what I use. They came on a sling I bought god knows how many years ago. At least 10yrs I would guess, possibly much more.

I have got through a few slings over that time but these have been a constant. Never say never but I have just inspected them carefully and i cannot see how they would fail really. They are really heavy in the hand and appear to be made out of good quality steel. They have seen a huge amount of use, the coating has worn off properly in places but the main moving parts still seem the same as the day I got them. I would think it more likely that a swivel stud would come loose from the stock than these actual swivels failing.

I also have a Quake claw sling which came with its own swivels in situ. I just compared them. The quality is crap in comparison. Thin, cheaply made metal which is light to handle and i can see a couple of points where failure might potentially happen at some point.

I imagine these Talon swivels will outlive me.

I also have a pair of those, and wish I had a dozen. Built to last, as you say. 👍

Those are identical to mine which are a similar age.

Have you tried the bifrost? Cracking stocks for range work but I got rid of mine as I didn't like the way it carried, just my personal opinion, but I went back to a Bell and Carlson.
That's actually the one i e chosen. The ironic thing is I don't actually carry it thatch. Usually use the gator. But that's great info. Thank you.

I was instantly transported back in time on reading the OP, Out on a Badger cull night, sling parted company at the fore end, rifle down horizontally on concrete yard, gorgeous Sako walnut stock broken through exact same as OP's, but still hanging on by a portion.
Taped it up massively & checked zero ........... Zeiss scopes seem to live up to rep, 4 Billies taken that night, an emergency delivery of an all weather resin stock next day from Flyboy 270.

Hi, I've got my glasses on now lol. Thats very interesting. I have held one but never carried one. I actually saw the included sling stud/swivel on the side of the stock. I also like the bergera b14 stock. The angular one one with the vertical pistol grip. I believe boyds do nice one in that style. Thank you for sharing your experience. Definitely something to bare in mind.

Oh wow. Im glad you were able to sort it quickly. Im having to work woth a discontinued cz550, I bought about a year ago, as new, old stock. Lovely gun I have to say but spare are like rocking horse 💩. Inc mags and stocks apparently.

I was referring to post #8, leaping a fence with rifle.
Oh I do apologise, and I appreciate the comment in full, especially dsc1 failure being correct. Definitely worth noting 🙏. I actually broke my leg climbing over a 5 bar gate in 2008. I had a shotgun with me, luckily I did exactly as you wrote. Thank you.

Those are far beefier than mine. " Talon" I'll keep an eye out for those.

Breaking speed limits is inexcusable, imo.
There's plenty of rules I'm prepared to bend or break, but that's not one of them and I've got no time for anyone who does.

but what if the speed limit is patently ridiculous ?

could you list the rules you are prepared to bend and break so we may judge your choices , we may have no time for your choices?

The only speed limits that I consider to be patently ridiculous are ones that are too high. I have yet to come across a speed limit that I feel is too low and would therefore justify breaking.

Well for a start I carry my knife - a Buck 110 - at all times, wherever I am and whatever I'm doing.
Only time I've taken it off my belt in the last 30 years or so was to get through security at the Senedd in Cardiff a couple of weeks ago.

i regret this now , not because you are right but because this is one of those never settled arguments because we have different experience and lives

fyi i think the knife laws are ridiculous as well and cannot believe that you should go to jail for five years for carrying your knife without good reason especially when you are considered suitable to own firearms

a bit like plodding along at 70mph in a modern car on an empty motorway , 60 year old laws need revising.

anyway , i'm out

Here in Germany there are parts of the Autobahn without any limit. Meaning up to and over = 300kph /186 mph is allowed. I am 100% against this due to the increase in traffic density since 1955 odd and the number of drivers passing through Germany that have 115 kph limits at home so have no experience of high speed racers coming up behind them when they pull out to overtake slow lorries of which there are thousands every day. I can always call up heated discussions around my pubs table when I speak my view as it is like the American 2nd Amendment gun law to the locals.
