Fallow rut 2023

They are definitely moving back to the rutting areas and I've seen my first scrape last week. But this is all pre rut stuff.

Yes…first mature Buck heard groaning up this year was just a couple of days ago.

After I’d checked four areas where they should have been the previous few days…..but weren’t !

An Easterly was possibly the cause on one spot / day, but not the others.

In mull last week, fallow grazing happily in separate groups. Back at home, this lad was in prime condition with no trace of smell. At least 3 weeks away I'd say.

Small scrapes up here for the last two weeks full of urine, suspect to be prickets. Two sorrels of similar age yesterday following a group of does quite intently, but the one shot was very clean and no sign of rutting.

No grunting yet.

Lots moving towards stands in the past week in Herefordshire, won’t expect to see much other than the odd pricket now on my ground until December/Jan

The odd pricket wandering about on their own, big bucks still in groups. Another two weeks yet before things start I would think.Might take a couple more young ones this next week, then leave bucks until April.
