Found myself in Keswick this week and weather looked good for hill walking so decided to take my little girl (8 months old) up Hellvellyn. Needed a few bits and fancied some new lightweight mountain shoes so went into town and was in Cotswold outdoors with my wife who found a bargain on the sale rack. I don’t particularly like the fact they partner with packham but I’m not hugely into brand politics so went to ask about a pair of gaiters and a new set of approach shoes. The clerk literally could not be arsed and suggested I went to a gun shop if I wanted hunting gaiters. Quite why I’d want to pay double the price for an inferior product with harkila etc stamped upon it god only knows. Soon left.
I then went into alp kit and bought a cracking pair of gaiters from the very helpful staff in there, one of which had worn the same gaiters on a season in Scotland and really recommended them and also reccomended going to a shop called Rathbones for my boots.
Took the advice and so glad I did, phenomenal service, great price, good selection and well priced. The guy at the desk also took the time to mark a few different routes on a map for us which we thoroughly enjoyed.
They have a crap website but if your ever in Keswick call in and take a look, great shop, really good people who have actually spent time trying the gear they sell.
