So I was up early and prepared for a trip to the East Coast drop two set of sticks off and a scope ,while I was up there re zero the 3006 in as the z6i is broken and gone back to Swarovski for repair so the old z4 had to take over ,so all going to plan rifle zeroed in thought I would smash a few clays while Im up there be rude not to ,So turn the chariot round head off home must remember to pick the war office up she’s been busy shopping in Beverly ,so finally arrived home safe and sound straight into the office to clean the barrel and there you go bore snake stuck in the barrel FFS any one got any tips how to remove it I would be truly great full

Ouch! Had this happen once and the same with a couple of pals - RFD sorted it out but just like a Butcher won’t share how he does it! I suspect a rod/rods and a hammer so maybe the reason why you are not allowed to witness the extraction….
Hope you get it sorted.

I would try pushing it back, id try removing it the way it went in, with a good dribble of oil from the stuck end.
Never had it happen to me though

I have attached strong fishing line to the end so I can pull it back out should it break. S J's tip on using oil is one I've heard of before but then the barrel was plugged and the bore snake soaked with plenty of oil before a rod with a jag was used.

Drop it into steve kershaw in Howden, he should be able to get it out for you. Rather than mess around and get it stuck more

Was on there a while back and he had a few in!

If you need his number I can PM it to you

Several threads on this already. Rule number one, never use a boresnake
I've used boresnakes on all my rifles from .22 to .270 and have yet to get one stuck. I'm truly at a loss as to why so many folk seem to have problems.

Maybe it's technique? I tend to drop the brass weight into my barrel with the rifle muzzle-down, then reverse the rifle and smoothly pull the snake through. Does everyone do it this way? 🤔

Same here. 22lr, .243 & .270
It's an annual end-of-season task that so far has caused no trouble 😆

There are bore snakes and then there are bore snakes, some are good quality some are not, I use them very infrequent got one that was sold to the RFD by Ruag for a .17 and the brass was larger than the .17 bore 😡😂

As said the old ways are still the best, use a rod.

Hmmm.
There are a lot of cheap knockoff versions about so make sure you buy the best, they will last a long time but do check periodically for wear and tear on the string
I do the same as Q but always pull it in a direct line with the bore to ensure that the boresnake is not running/rubbing against the rifle’s muzzle at any point - to prevent fraying and ultimately failure.

I was not thinking and put a .308 patch on my .223 bore snake and got it stuck , after much frustration, sore hands, and FFS! I tied the weighted end to the uprights post on the stairs, newel post?, and then applied slow steady pressure with body woeight and out it came.

Relief.

Braze a brass screw to a rod and screw it into the snake in the bore and try to draw it backwards maybe.
I don't know , it might require some considerable air or water pressure to force it out.
I've done it with stuck paches but never seen a boresnake stuck in a bore.

Just another fishing job. Jagging a free end and pulling it out has much more chance of success than pushing, which will just bunch it up even tighter into the bore.

i'm sure telling the poster that you've used a bore snake for years without trouble will help him out no end with his stuck boresnake

1. don't use bore snakes as has been discussed endlessly on here and every shooting forum across the world

2, get a gunsmith to get it out before you do too much damage

3, throw all bore snakes in the bin and get a post 18th century cleaning system !!!
