We had thousands of ICU beds available but they continued the lockdown in the pursuit of eliminating the virus for 18 months. People are dying now as their treatment was delayed. I personally had to have a skin cancer surgery delayed for 6 months. I was lucky, others not so.Whilst in general agreement with you, the issue was there were practically no ICU beds available, therefore they could not continue with heart opps etc, as to do so knowing there was no ICU facility should there be post op issues would have been grossly negligent.
