Fly Fishing Lesson

Learning to haul is usually best done on a lawn with the rod low to the grass.

I found these helpful.

Or ..

that top video is really handy - the advice to start with everything on the ground looks like it would really help!

Shame I have to work today.

Casting lessons are never a wasted opportunity. Just like improving a golf swing or analyzing the path of a clay pigeon .It's far easier to correct something sooner, rather than later.
You will extend your learning curve greatly when it comes to casting, and generally fishing with someone who knows what they're doing.
Roll casting, double haul, even spey casting with a fly rod are worth their weight but there is no substitute for actual fishing lessons and learning about watercraft, entomology, leader make up etc
I'd encourage you to get a cheap vice and start tying some patterns yourself, YouTube has thousands of instructional videos. It will add another dimension of confidence into your angling.

I still can’t do it.

Major weakness in windy Scottish conditions.

Need to find someone to teach me…
Next time you come down I'll teach you in less than 10 minutes (as long as you have the skills of rubbing your stomach and patting your head simultaneously 🤣)

How about a 9 year old double hauling?

Cheers Richard

hello, well done, if you ever get Oxford way i can show you fishing on Farmoor, Already helped a few people on Trout fishing

True but

1) Try and use an old rod where the state of the rings and tip ring won't matter of they get scored up,
2) Try and use an old line where, again, it won't matter if it gets ruined.

Learning over grass is better, perhaps, that not at all but you can end up having small particles of grit attracted on to the line and that's bad for both rod rings and line.

Good Luck anyway I cannot double haul at all. And pretty the same as useless at single hauling as well!
