Is there a factory rifle produced today in swift? 22- 250 can almost match it with a longer barrel life and shorter action . Burns less powder , burns the barrel out much slower . Brass available in most shops and factory ammo , easier to moderate due to the lower fill and of course with the price of powder more economic .
This is just what happens to cartridges, they get bettered

You're right though, the 22-250 almost matches it, but i find .223 enough gun for fox for me these days, preferably with a fast twist.

Hi guys,

This has probably been asked plenty of times but curiosity and the fact I need to make 30 posts before putting a wanted advert out for some stalking I thought I’d shoot my shot.

Now I have a .243, cheep and cheerful Ruger M77 mk2 paired with a Leupold VX-3 with a moderator I paid £350, I chucked on one of dads old harris bipods and a sling and it does everything I need it to, lamping foxes and the morning stalks on the Red/Roe.

I want to now get a second rifle for a dedicated night vision rifle, something that’s cheap to run(I home load my ammunition) easy to get hold of, flat out to 250-300yards and will be enough to stop them without any doubt! It will be solely for foxes so won’t need to cover any other species.

I have 2 and saves a lot of faff when it comes to reloading

I’m using 20-250 . Nice and flat out to 350-400 without to much hassle although it doesn’t like the wind much

Its not far away from a 243 with a similar bullet weight . Nothing is flat at 350 -400 yards unless you dial in to further ranges (getting a high peak trajectory over the line of sight making such a fixed zero impractical. Depending on bullet and how hard you push it I suspect 9" low at 400 yards ? That's not the hard bit though all longer range shooting in the field is limited by wind correction a none constant that cannot be adequately measured without a sighter shot
