So I have two Freyr and Devik moderators and I am outraged that I can find nothing wrong with them to moan about on the internet. Both their supply and function seems absolutely fine after 700 + shots!! This is not acceptable!! Have I been unlucky? I thinking of buying another so fingers crossed wish me luck!!
Yours truly disgusted

What is your cleaning regime? Fully strip, clean and dry after every shooting session? If you do then can only be assumed the multiple failures of late are a batch issue……if you do not clean after every session then can only be assume the multiple failures of late are a batch issue…..

Well said, and while I appreciate that SOME have had issues with the F&D there a great many that are very happy with these moderators.

It's very wrong that someone can have a post about these mods that is cleverly worded to warn people off and have the post locked for comments yet be able to comment on the post to bump it instead. Very wrong indeed

Well all I’ll say is that if you had experienced what myself and other members had by way of customer service you may feel somewhat differently.
I sincerely hope you never have cause you require such service from them.
I for one would welcome an honest appraisal of a product before parting with my money, and they way they have sterilised their reviews online is disgusting. You can’t just delete the negative to paint a positive picture.
I have always said all along I know there are plenty of happy folk out there, and that I firmly believed they had a batch issue. Gave them every opportunity to take the same view and remedy but they chose not to.

Ah well, you’re one of the lucky ones. There seems to be a growing number of those in the other camp. Thanks for keeping the subject live.

Might just kinky this here seems like a logical place

I am in a similar parlous position as your good self. I have two F&D's and know of several others. I do not clean - or even remove from rifle - after every outing. All other units I know of are in a similar shocking condition (they work and don't allow their owners a 'bitch fest').
Something should be done - if only I could get my arse off this keyboard.

That is good news for you.

I have no skin in this game but does your experience not completely vindicate the opposite experience that others have had? I am the same as you in that I do not clean moderators. I remove them after use and let them reach room temp once home before being stored separately from the rifle.

The people who have had poor experiences with these moderators have reportedly taken care of them whilst you have not. Yet yours is fine. As I would expect it to be (not so sure about the crowns of your rifles though). It does however suggest some products are clearly not behaving the same as others. Your post is really useful I feel, as it shows that someone who does not service their moderator as suggested by the manufacturer, is having no issues but someone who does follow the makers instructions is having issues after barely any use.

If that does not illustrate how a potential bad batch is in circulation, I don't know what does.

These threads are useful. It shows possible issues but more tellingly, they show what level of service you can expect from makers and distributers. All very useful. Thanks for posting your experiences.

They work great for me, don’t upset the balance point much, and don’t ruin the looks of a classic rifle in my opinion.

If someone’s expectations are ultralight weight, high suppression effectiveness, and high round counts with zero maintenance, then it may be a different story.

But in my experience, they seem to hold up fine with minimal cleaning and care. I usually just give the baffles a shot of oil after a session, and maybe a cleaning after every hundred or two rounds. Some lithium or moly grease on the threads and interior sleeve protects the metal and makes disassembly a lot easier.

I don't know anything about F&Ds but I do know that mods should ALWAYS be removed ASAP, failure to do this almost guarantees pitting at the muzzle end of the barrel. I speak from experience!

Indeed, this should be emphasized to new users, as well as the importance of greasing the barrel threads once in a while.

Not only does prompt removal prevent pitting, but the free airflow through the moderator after shooting also helps massively with its longevity.

I also speak from PERSONAL experience, about 50 years of it!!. Crack mod off seat, leave bolt open, pour dram. Life's too short.
I've had rifles barrelled due to worn rifling, but NEVER due to muzzle/crown problems.

F&D get a thumbs up from me anyway for their customer care.

Customer complains and is supplied with another brand new unit free of charge.

Same customer complains again about the free unit and expects a third one, life is tough and business is tough and sometimes you’ve got to make a tough call or eventually you won’t have a business.

I might save up a few bob and invest in one.

Steve Beaty who many on here will know of, will tell you 70% of the used rifles he gets to see have pitting in the barrels due to mods being left on.
