full bore rifle ranges

Just wondering if someone can enlighten me.

Being a Kentish lad I do think to myself sometimes,
"Really do wish I could take the .243 down to the range and just let of some rounds of and zero properly on a nice target, flat ground on a table nice and steady" .....
But seems as far as I'm aware my closest full boar rifle club is at bailey, that's and hour and half from were I live.
Just wondering is licensing for a full bore range difficult to get cos there's alot of small bore clubs for .22lr or air rifles but none even tho looks like they have the land that do full bore. Only option you get with these clubs is sign up with us be a member and pay the fees shoot often and ever now and then we mite book a day in down at bisley???

It’s the range facility that is difficult, rather than the licensing. You either need a sufficiently large area to have a range danger area (where bullets can wing about without hitting people) OR you need to construct a zero template range, such into an old quarry or something where the bullets can’t feasibly leave.

The necessary land and infrastructure for both are expensive, especially in densely populated areas like Kent, whereas in places like Wales the likes of Orion can safely set up.

Bottom line is the economics just don’t really work out.

All that said, you already have a major military range complex in Kent, with a full bore rifle club there that shoot out to 1100 metres:

Noise is another major issue

As has been intimated above there are huge challenges in setting up a centre fire range

The cost of any range is enormous

Most ‘shooters’ balk at paying £40 or so for a session

That is just not economically viable

A local ‘long’ range to me has a ‘minimum of 4’ policy @ £120 per person for the day

It is close to a sensible daily return

Not surprising then that ranges are hard to come by as few are prepared to pay that kind of money
