There are many out there that will do anything to stop all forms of field sports!
i agree

i hear what you are saying and feel you along with the rest can't see what i am trying to achieve
as in time it will become clear, as we are after the same goal not not looking in the same direction at the mo

Stone what you expect from a dog is not what i expect that is clear if i have not found my deer within the hour i would hazzard a guess that it is away clean . I am lucky as old buck will follow a blood trail with ease but i am not interested in some one finding a valuable trophy. It is more for deer welfare than cash.
Like i said offering the services of my dog to any one within a hours drive from me is what i did .That is were it ends when they call if they say they have been looking for it for 2 days than i will say best of luck and at least you tried.
But if they do find it don't eat the meat. ;)

What more could anyone ask of you LDG offering to turn out within an hours drive. Although in the winter s has taken me more than an hour to drive from Symington to Carstairs.

you are wrong
what you and i expect are the same
the dog to do as we hav trained
to find what we seek
i like to train for cold scent first, you hav trained on live or fresh scent
result the same just a difference in time scale
hopefully one found beast
just there are times you may hav to wait a little more than a hour for the injured beast to lie up and stiffen so it can't get up and run on again, as a follow up shot is not possible,
just remember some of us stalk in built up area's ;)
Plus some dogs are not capable of holding such a lively beast so they should never be put in that position, i would prefer to lose one deer than one good dog to a bad reading of situation
i used Standbuck's point about trophy's not mine (please remember that)
but these things hav to be taken into account as all situ's are different across the board as that was a valid point
but do agree
you hav a useful dog and you are willing to help
that should not be overlooked

I thank you for such an honest reply and let me add that i admire a dog that can take any of its training to high standards. I have been out with hounds terriers lurchers and gun dogs that have all been the best at what they dog. But what i feel about a register is that we will only except the very best dogs/trainers on to the voluntary register. Now while i don't like to say it there are also poor quality dogs and trainers and even my old mutt is sliding down hill as the years pass. But he is still and so will other dogs be 100X better than any of us humans.
So we need to make sure we don't scare good lads with good intentions away.
Sure we can have tests and can breed off the best but that can be done with out this stupid mandatory word getting used all the time.
