Goldfinches

Guess what - sitting here eating my lunch / breakfast in the conservatory

one solitary young goldfinch munching on the niger seeds 10 feet on the flat feeder

also 2 jays and cock blackbird scrapping over the spilt ferret food, blackbird is a stroppy little bugger won't give it up

made my day - chuffed as a monkey - back to normal. :)

Only just got up had had a cracking night out foxing last night right through until the light come up

There are plenty on the sunflower hearts here in Edinburgh this year again. The photo was taken last year.

We only get the one pair and as last year we had none I am pleased. We only moved here 18 months ago and then the garden was almost devoid of birds. Only had two sightings of chaffinches last year, now they are regulars, never saw a greenfinch at all last year they are now regulars too. This morning there was a group of longtailed tits on a feeder with fat balls hanging off the bird table when a juvenile greater spotted woodpecker landed on the table, don't often see those two together. There are loads of blue and great tits, plus all the usual suspects robins, dunnock, blackbird, wren etc. All this while you have breakfast, marvellous.

John

PS costs a fortune to feed them every month, but worth it :-D.

I hang up the fat balls as well - 5 of them go in a day! I've had both greater and lesser spotted woodpeckers on the peanuts too.

Saw another 2 outside my neighbours this morning. Not sure if it's because of this thread or if I genuinely hadn't seen any before.

We are really blessed with such a variety of birds, four years ago myself and the wife sat in a wood near Aviemore
waiting to see a crested tit after two days of waiting a whole family turned up, we probably see everything else as well, including the elusive osprey, I was fly fishing just outside Grantown and they caught more fish than I. :tiphat:
