Fuel additives what you using ?

I used to throw any old fuel in until I had an Injector fail last year, Cost a fortune to get put right and wether it was coincidence or not it failed 30mile after filling up at cheapest garage in the area at the time

I use Redex in both my diesel and petrol cars. I get it in bulk at Costco. Difficult to tell what difference it makes, but I think (feel) it does somehow.

Kerosene should help in winter against gelling.
Hi BB.
No issues in UK with Diesel gelling in Winter. Comes from the refinery with the necessary additives. I know Germany is a lot colder so may be different for you lads.

Coldest i have known is -20c. Ordinary pump Diesel worked fine in the Defender 2.4. It was bloody cold.

I use a 50/50 mix of redex and two stroke, about 50ml per tank,
it stops the cold diesel rattle, lubes the injector pump etc,
my freelander is on 203k and running like a sewing machine,

I may have jinxed it now,
As above regarding 2T but has to be low ash mineral version I was advised also put a helping of millers diesel additive every tank and before the fill so it mixes as the fuel goes in.

For nearly 20 years I commuted 30K miles annually. 2 l diesel Zafiras x2
Filled up exclusively on diesel from Sainsbury or Morrisons.
No issues whatsoever. Very occasionally added some redex diesel additive either from Wilko or Lidl.
Most critical thing to MPG was correct tyres and pressure.
Goodyear Efficient grips improve MPG by 10% and we're excellent in the wet.
80% of miles on motorway so engine always hot. Changed oil and filter every 10k miles.

I have an old gmc with an N/A 6.2 liter detroit diesel that gets a pint of 2 stroke oil per tank to combat the new low sulfur fuel but little else unless it's very cold. Another of my trucks with the 24v Cummins turbo will burn anything and commonly gets a quart of ATF, motor oil, power steering fluid, gear oil or anything else I'm trying to get rid of per tank and runs just fine. They both get either power source or 16-32oz of regular unleaded per tank in extreme cold.
I should add that I cleaned out some farm sheds and ended up with gallons and gallons of various new/clean lubricants that needed disposing of. I don't buy that sort of thing to add to my tank but happy to burn it for free.

if you have an older diesel engine, its beneficial to put about 500ml of 2 stroke oil in the tank. needs to be mineral JASO-FB spec. i do it to a few of my diesels. works out cheaper if you buy 5L of oil at a time.

i use Liqui Moly diesel additive when i service the car, just fill the fuel filter up neat with it.

If I can, I fill with Premium diesel. If not, I have used Millers Ecomax, and am just about to try Archoil AR6900- DMax. No issues, so far, with DPF in eight months. 13 year old RR L322, 4.4 V8.

Steve.

How frequently would you add redex to a tank?
Is it a monthly thing or more yearly when you service it?

Cheers,

Sandy

Hi

I mix 50ml low ash 2-stroke (Screwfix) with 10ml EHC (bought online)? (#19) per 10L of diesel for my VW stable vehicles and the previous from the same stable - all seem to have a very low emissions figure (at MOT) and on an occassional check with the Mechanics OBD/PC when checking DPF capacity.

The 2-stroke was recommended on the Passat Forums (and by Swedish Govt) and the the EHC by a person that was involved in fuel chemistry.

An additive and a good thrashing got my old hilux through the MOT emissions test after a fail. I haven't got a clue what the additive was but it worked.

I have been using Dipetane both in the hilux and my current ranger, it definitely runs smoother and gives better mpg.
Another vote for dipetane, definitely smoother and slightly more mpg.
DPF regen cycles are almost non existent so there's virtually no soot being blown down the exhaust for the filter to burn off.
Tried it in heating oil for the Esse cooker, cleanest blue flame I've seen for years.

Clean filters and a really hot engine just pre test works wonders….

Oh dear!
I said similar a few weeks ago about my 260K FL2 HSE.
It stopped last week and got taken for scrapping 2 days ago. £312.
Ken.
Ps.
I used to use premium diesel most of the time.
You still get a gallon of fluid from the supermarket but it doesn’t produce as much energy as a gallon of premium fuel.
Worth paying for premium, even if it’s only every other tankful.
PPs. Wow, glad it’s gone.
Insurance last year was a bit over £800.
Renewal notice came today.

That quote is a bit wild.
